To be tired of her constantly telling me her dress size?

I work in an office in the city centre and my colleague will probably go and buy new clothes every weeks or she’ll show me photos of her in her new outfits - I never ask to see.

She always tells me how a size 8 is absolutely massive on her and how she’s bought the size 6 but is going to exchange it for a 4. Honestly she probably tells me that every time.

I’m not quite sure what she wants me to say? Congratulations for being the smallest size available? She’s average height too.

I don't think that they think it's a bonding thing. I think it's a show off thing and they want people to tell them how thin they are. I never do.

I used to try on a size 8 and think the label was wrong as it was too big for me. I was mentally ill. It's genuinely quite weird, not recognising what size you are. I went from a 16 to a 6 am much fatter than a 6 now Did she used to be much bigger?

I have a feeling this is one of those people you smile and nod at.

One could also post this video in response to the how many times would you go into the office thread. Christ that was a flashback

Pre-empt her! Say something like "oh here she is, have you been buying the wrong sized clothes again Sharon".

muggart · 12/04/2024 20:29

She's unusually small.. maybe she just finds it tricky to find things that fit and gets frustrated?

I'd ignore it and definitely don't use any snarky responses suggested in this thread, it'll make you sound mean and jealous.

Maybe she is trying g to give you a hint if you're a bit of a porker.

If you are also slim then it does sound odd.

A 'bit of a porker'.

You sound really nice,

GreyCarpet · 12/04/2024 21:03

If she is buying things that should fit her according to the label size and they were still too big, I can understand this.

My daughter is a 4-6. She's tiny. She's also 18, 5 ft tall and has size 13.5 feet.

She really struggles getting clothes to fit her because, given vanity sizing, even the smallest sizes can come up too big.

It is really frustrating tbh.

GreyCarpet · 12/04/2024 21:08

Also you don’t need to use language like “porker”, I know MN love to fat shame though.

Unfortunately, there are a vast number who are equally happy to be nasty to small women too it seems.

Just don't engage in the conversation. It sounds like she's seeking attention and fishing for compliments. Next time she does it , act disinterested when she starts talking about it ,she will soon get the hint.
