It has been some time now since the majority of people read published reports etc using either laptops or mobile phones. So why oh why, do the government/NHS (I'm looking at the Cass Report right now) and other organisations persist in publishing documents which are difficult to read in a digital format? I'm sorry, I don't want to have to turn my phone on the side and scroll down then go back to the top, scroll across and down again!

Publish your stuff in a digital friendly format!!

A point of order that the Cass report isn't government or NHS. It's independent.

In my experience all government reports are html first (and not in columns).

Yes, because for most of us, it really isn't an issue

Nospecialcharactersplease · 12/04/2024 07:47

Agreed. Although I did like laying my work out in columns when I was younger, it made me feel very professional.

Nvm! I got what you mean! Nrain fart here.

I absolutely agree with you! Columns are difficult to read and add cognitive load. I hate them on desktop too.

eurochick · 12/04/2024 08:27

I agree with you! It really doesn't work for reading on a screen.

You are right but it was written for the government and should be accessible

Yes I agree.

Usually there are two formats on government websites though - the pdf and the html, which is much easier to read.

But they don't always provide both.
