AIBU to ask about air friers?

Boring I know but when you get an air frier like is that it? Do you have to buy anything else in order to use it? Can you use tin foil? Or parchment paper? Anything that reduces the amount of washing up would be fab.

thanks so much :-)

You can buy paper liners, but silicone is more eco friendly and ultimately cheaper. It doesn't matter how greasy the silicone gets, it washes easily.

@Ponoka7

thank you. When you say silicone do you mean silicone liners? Or do you have to buy silicone trays or something?

An air fryer is like a tiny normal oven. So you don't need anything extra. I often roast eg some tomatoes on a scrap of foil because I don't want to wash up.

Crumpleton · 11/04/2024 21:20

I use foil and buy airfryer parchment sheets.
I also use those tin foil trays from the supermarket, the type Chinese takeaway use.
I also use any ceramic/ Pyrex type dish that will fit in the draws.

No silicone though.

I got silicone liners from Amazon for anything like shepherd's pie or pasta bake or baking cake. Roast potatoes or chips are better straight on the grid.

FarmGirl78 · 11/04/2024 21:29

You don't NEED to buy silicone bakeware or liners, just that a lot of people do.

Ignore the term "air fryer" and just think "very small oven".

Matronic6 · 11/04/2024 21:45

You don't need any extras but we did get silicone trays to make cleaning easier/less frequent.

Sconeswithnutella · 11/04/2024 21:48

Foil and baking paper work fine but you don’t actually need anything. Things like chips I just brush some oil onto the tray. Enjoy OP, I use mine most days.

pinksheetss · 11/04/2024 22:00

We don't put anything extra in ours, they are so easy to clean after use that its almost pointless wasting money on things to line them
Even just a soak right after cooking and everything will wipe away so easily

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/04/2024 22:21

The silicon that's are useful if I want to cook one thing immediately after another without having to wash it in between e.g. bake a cake followed by chips.

VanillaImpulse · 12/04/2024 22:26

The good thing about the air fryer is all the fat drips down the grill to the bottom. If you add something then that would stop that process

Bournetilly · 12/04/2024 22:27

I didn’t buy any extras, I just clean it after using. It’s so easy to clean. Definitely recommend.

Caswallonthefox · 12/04/2024 22:29

I use parchment paper with mine.

But you don't want that to happen if you are making scones or a cake or browning a shepherd's pie. It depends on what you are making. You could use baking parchment for baking scones or biscuits but I prefer a reusable liner. It's not essential though.

I use tin foil under oily/ smelly stuff like sausage, bacon or fish. My airfyer has a metal rack and I use the paper liners on thin food that could go through the rack but mainly we just put food on the rack as it's so easy to wash.
