So I get a message from DS1(16)at work today to tell me there’s a skip in our front garden. They’ve shoe horned it into the tiny front garden of our terraced house. In the process they’ve hit the wall knocking off 3 header stones, damaged the wall and even worse the brick gate post is now wobbling! It’s nearly 5 foot high and moving right at the bottom. What’s worse is I didn’t even order a fucking skip!
I’ve phoned them and pretty much all
they said was we’ll come and collect it tomorrow!
I’ve emailed them with photos and video of all the damage.
I’m raging!

No point being fuming about it, you can’t change what’s happened, they will fix it.

Dh’s work colleague backed a lorry into someone’s brick wall and his company paid for it to get fixed.

There's plenty of point being fuming about it. No, it won't change what's happened. But the stress of it, the frustration, all of those feeling are entirely normal. Humans can't be happy 100% of the time. Anger is a totally healthy feeling, as long as it doesn't lead to violence/damage. Telling someone not to be angry is about a useful as a chocolate teapot.

Whether it gets fixed or not is besides the point. The whole thing is a huge inconvenience, and people really don't need it in top of their daily frustrations of life.

I’d take the skip hostage until you’ve got it in writing that they will pay.

OldPerson · 16/04/2024 14:17

The company will be covered by insurance. Ask for their insurance details. Get a quote to repair the damage and submit claim. You've already taken the photos.

But also make sure the 5ft brick pillar is not going to fall on top of a small child. If needed, get the skip company to make it safe. If they need to knock it down - you know where to throw away the bricks!

It's not about getting angry, it's about getting it sorted.

OK. Lots of photos also including skip and company name.

Any doorbell footage?

Insurance claim against skip company, let your house insurance deal with it.

What a PITA!

It sounds like something out of a sitcom. I hope they put it right and compensate you for the inconvenience. Did you get the name of the company? I’m thinking small claims court if the don’t pay up!

Mumof2NDers · 16/04/2024 22:11

It’s all sorted! Came home from work today and the builders been and done the repairs. I’m really happy with the way the company have dealt with it tbf.

That’s great news. I’m glad you don’t have to think about it any more and your mental load has been lightened. Impressive service by the skip company to rectify things.

KidsandKindness · 16/04/2024 23:35

Really pleased to hear that the company acted responsibly and put everything right for you OP.

ellyeth · 17/04/2024 12:59

I think you should put the claim in writing, with photos, and enquire as to when they intend to repair the damage.

ellyeth · 17/04/2024 12:59

Should have read last posts - sorry. Glad it has been sorted.

Emelene · 17/04/2024 16:33

Glad it’s been sorted for you!
