To want to feel happy with whats been done when I've had a haircut?

once, just once, I'd like to go into a hairdressers and at the point where I'm paying them £30 odd quid at the end I'd like to be happy with the job they've done.... now, I'm not saying I've been butchered in any way shape or form and the haircut I've got has been done nicely, properly and neatly .... BUT - it's not what I bloody asked for....I showed the (very nice lady) pictures of the haircut I wanted, with me wearing the haircut so I know it's possible for the haircut to happen, so I've now got hair about 2 inches shorter than what I asked for. Usually this wears off when I've washed it and done it myself but if anything its worse now! I didn't ask for it to be layered, and it has been. I've got wavy hair and it's now sticking out in all sorts of places - none of this was apparent at the time as the girl had straightened my hair to within an inch of its life... do I go back and complain, where will it get me... can't add 6 months worth of growth to my head can she?

I hate bad haircuts. I once had such a bad one that I went home by the back streets so no-one could see me before I'd washed my hair and restyled it.

Do you go to chain hairdressers? IME they have a limited repetoire of styles that they are trained to do and you will always get a version of one of the styles no matter what you ask for. You could try an independent hairdresser, especially one with older employees who will have more experience of different styles.

Perhaps you could check in the windows of hairdressers to see what they're doing to clients, when you see a client with a haircut that you want then you'll know that's the hairdresser for you.

Urgh, I HATE hairdressers like this. Personally, I always think that you can tell if a hairdresser is any good by the way they comment on working with the movement and kinks in YOUR hair as opposed to choosing a specific style. If she had done that, then it would not be sticking up in weird places. I have had similar problems in the past due to kinks in the hair and if I were you I would go back and ask for it to be cut by a more senior member of staff and specify why. It can't bring your hair back but they have given you an unsatisfactory job and so I would say they are obliged to right the wrongs that they created. Straightening is just a cheats way of getting a good hairstyle out of a bad cut and something that cannot be maintained as your hair will suffer from heat damage if done every day.

For my first haircut at a hairdressers I now always go for a trim so they can get used to my hair, I would never get a restyle from someone who hasn't done it before, because the potential for it to go wrong is high.

Agree with mucha, go back, I once went back to a hairdressers when they gave me a Patrick Swayze from dirty dancing, I just wanted some layers, hence the rule above now self imposed.
