Final interview- if successful should I take the job?

Stressedgiraffe · 10/04/2024 18:19

I'm currently looking for a new role. I have a final stage interview next week for a new role.
I was 100% sure if offered I'd take it now I'm not too sure as my unhelpful dh has made me wonder.

Current role- been there 2 1/2 years. Great company. 27 days holiday, shares, 2% bonus 3 volunteering days £55k. Mainly remote except once a month or so in office 5 hrs away.expenses not paid.
Been moved into a new department at the beginning of the year, bad new manager.

New role- new company, training people to do my current role. 27 days holiday, 2 volunteer days, 3 cpd days £65k
Remote but maybe some training days in London ( will ask about expenses)
Good interviews so far nice people.

Would I be mad to give up a stable job I currently dislike for a new training role?

When you say new company, do you mean new to you or new full stop?

Mumaway · 10/04/2024 18:26

I genuinely can't understand why you wouldn't? It's similar or better terms and conditions, a bit more pay, and not your awful manager. Go for it, enjoy the change and challenge

colourfulcrochet · 10/04/2024 18:27

I'd definitely consider it, but I work in corporate training anyway, so I'd be comfortable in a role like that.

However, I'd want to clearly understand performance metrics and how I'd be expected to deliver results, how they are measured, what I need to be doing to pass probation, and soforth. But that's because I've been burned taking on a new role in a training capacity without any clarity in these things, which caused me a lot of grief down the line.

If the new role is clearly understood across the team and wider business, then I'd be OK with it.

QueenofTheBorg · 10/04/2024 18:27

Why ever wouldn't you? It's more money, still remote, good benefits.

Stressedgiraffe · 10/04/2024 18:28

It's a 30 year old company vrs 175 year old company.

What’s your career plan and how does either job fit in?

Why did you apply in the first place?

Stressedgiraffe · 10/04/2024 18:34

In another life I used to be a teacher for 8 years then moved into IT for 15 years.
I guess this would be a mix of the 2 training IT .
I applied as I thought it'd be a good mix of my skills.
I also can't stand my new manager so want out.

I’d definitely take it. I just asked about newness as you made it sound like a start-up. 30 years old isn’t new!

PrimalLass · 10/04/2024 18:37

Go for it.

As long as it's a profitable 30 yo company so what? And you'll get away from horrible boss for more money, do it!

colourfulcrochet · 10/04/2024 18:50

It sounds perfect op. You only live once. Get away from the terrible manager.

WorkCleanRepeat · 10/04/2024 19:01

Sounds like a no brainer to me. If I were you I'd take the job. Nothing worse than a bad manager!

fancyfrogs · 10/04/2024 19:23

I think it sounds good. What is it that your DH has said that's made you question things?

Popchippps · 10/04/2024 19:29

Take it

a bad manager makes or breaks a job imo and you were looking for a reason

Nicflowers82 · 10/04/2024 19:30

Like PP have said, it sounds perfect and it’s a great combination of your skills. If DH is like mine he might be just more cautious and more apprehensive, worried about change etc for the household but I really can’t see any downside seeing as it’s a good role, better salary etc .

Stressedgiraffe · 10/04/2024 19:31

I think it's as I'm over the 2 year mark it'd be difficult for them to sack me? Also better the devil I know.

I worry about job security as I'm the sole earner at home

I had a very similar situation last year and made the decision to move. Best thing I ever did. You know yourself best but sometimes you have to do the scary/different thing. If you take it and hate it then you can move on but you will have gained experience and skills in the meantime. Good luck with your choice.

awopbopaloobopawopbamboom · 10/04/2024 19:36

I work in corporate training and would probably sell my family for £65k.

Kidding. Mostly.

Take the money!

Stressedgiraffe · 10/04/2024 19:48

@awopbopaloobopawopbamboom is it good? I thought it was about average for training.

Over 2 years doesn't make it difficult for a company to 'move somebody on', it just means there is a process to go through, and that you have more rights. It doesn't stop anything, or mean they'd have to pay fortunes.

On the subject of your new job, I'd go for it. Moving company / job is the best way to increase your salary.

awopbopaloobopawopbamboom · 10/04/2024 20:59

I manage training for 10k+ people, and I'm on £50k. £65k isn't unheard of at all and I should probably be on a lot more 😂

Chemistrychic · 10/04/2024 21:01

Go for it

colourfulcrochet · 10/04/2024 21:11

I'm in sales enablement and make 58k with 10% bonus and unlimited holidays. You've got a good offer, I'd take it.

As an aside, do you have unemployment insurance? Savings for 3-6 months of bills? If not, use your extra pay to create added security for your family, and enjoy the new role.

Toastcrumbsinsofa · 10/04/2024 21:15

Why Isn’t your DH earning anything? Do you have very young children? It seems unfair for him to criticise your potential to earn more if he isn’t working.

Stressedgiraffe · 10/04/2024 21:31

He's disabled and we're waiting to hear about pip. He is capable of working a fully remote position but can't find anything.
