DD 16 home lunches

What does your 16 teen have for lunch?
Mine likes fresh chicken curry. Her dad is a good cook. Leaves it frozen. But it's a nightmare.

Ideas for easy lunches for fussy teens.

And what do your guys eat?

Husband not as keen to kick start her cooking.

The DD isn’t cooking the lunches though, as husband doesn’t want her to for some reason 🙄

3luckystars · 10/04/2024 13:46

She is not your child is that correct ?

Then it’s not your ‘nightmare’ I would ignore it all.

Flyhigher · 10/04/2024 13:47

Agreed with the pandering. Not my idea!

Flyhigher · 10/04/2024 13:48

She's mine.

There is no limit to the words you can use here.

HappyNewTaxYear · 10/04/2024 13:51

Is she ever going to leave home? How is she going to cope when she does? Does your DH also cook fresh chicken curry for her? Did you have lunch cooked for you at 16? Is she also eating a proper hot meal in the evening?

ApolloandDaphne · 10/04/2024 13:52

If she wants gourmet lunches then she cooks gourmet lunches. No way would mine have ever got away with that sort of demand.

There is no limit to the words you can use here.

Indeed- this is so hard to follow and comment, because the OP insists on minimal four word sentences as well!

HappyNewTaxYear · 10/04/2024 13:53

Oh this is the rude kid isn’t it?

Why are you cooking for someone who is rude to you?

StoneWaterWheel · 10/04/2024 13:55

Your Dh isn't doing her any favours though, she needs to learn to plan her lunches and make her own. In 2 years she could be heading off to uni. She can also plan and make some family dinners too.

FunnysInLaJardin · 10/04/2024 13:55

eggs or toasted sandwiches here. Also pasta and pesto on occasion

NoSquirrels · 10/04/2024 13:59

If your DH is happy to cater, let him.

If you’re not happy to cater, don’t.

She won’t starve.

Why are you even thinking this is a problem you need input into solving? It’s the very definition of Not Your Problem. Confused

Singleandproud · 10/04/2024 13:59

It's DDs job to make me lunch in the holidays if she's not out. Potato and leek soup today in the soup maker. It makes 4 portions so we have some for tomorrow too.

Catza · 10/04/2024 14:26

Easy lunch idea: "Hey child, it's lunch time. If you are hungry, you know where the fridge is". Then get back to work.

Boxerdor · 10/04/2024 14:30

leave her to it OP. She can make herself a nice curry or just a ham sandwich. Why are you bothered? 16 year olds can sort their own lunches out as long as there is food in the house

theduchessofspork · 10/04/2024 14:38

They make their own lunch!

I don’t really know but the fridge is full - sandwiches, toasties, wraps, massive salads, omelettes, occasionally pasta - leftovers or freezer meals if they want

theduchessofspork · 10/04/2024 14:39

@Singleandproud

Do you think soup makers are worth it??

Greenfluffycardi · 10/04/2024 14:40

Mine are almost 17 and 28. God knows what they eat , toast, egg on toast. Whatever they make for themselves. I stopped making their lunches years ago unless I’m making lunch for everyone.

doppelganger2 · 10/04/2024 14:41

Flyhigher · 10/04/2024 13:01

She won't eat cheese on toast.

she sounds like a right pampered princess. Let her cook her own food if she is so bloody fuzzy. She is 16. I wouldn't put up with that nonsense.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 10/04/2024 14:42

Various toasties (eg pastrami sauerkraut and cheese)

Bagizza- baguette in the oven for 10 min with a bit of tomato puree, pesto and cheese

Hot wraps / quesidillas eg fish fingers and tartaric sauce, spicy chicken and peppers and cheese etc (or tomato puree pesto and mozzarella in the oven for pizza)

Stir fry with packet rice and whatever is in the fridge and packet sauces

Various dips like hummus, red pepper dips etc with pitta bread and olives

Leftovers like cauliflower cheese with pasta

Quorn burgers in a bun / hot dogs

Big batches of soup defrosted

saltysquid · 10/04/2024 14:42

Have a look on tik tok OP for easy recipies. Quick pastas, including orzo pasta, bakes, quinoa, noodles, stir fried rice

Revelatio · 10/04/2024 14:43

Agree with posters, let her cook

Jamiedodgers · 10/04/2024 14:43

Jacket potato with a diff filling every day.

also if the curry is already in the freezer can’t she just microwave it?

fieldsofbutterflies · 10/04/2024 14:46

You don't need people to give you ideas about what she can have for lunch, ffs.

She's sixteen. Direct her to the kitchen and let her crack on with it.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 10/04/2024 14:48

Mine has cup noodles, crisps & a can of something from what I can gather.
