Like all good governments, they will say anything to make them look good. However, when it comes to action, you will note the law/s lack teeth

The BS is now never ending from number ten
A couple of week ago the big guy came out of number to on a friday at 6pm to tell us all abiut his big, new stance on - TBH, I've forgotten what it was as it was toal BS

The Tories and Labour will say and do anything to make themselves look good.

Criminals know that even if they get caught, there is almost a zero percent chance of being taken to court and no chance of prison in 99.99999% of the cases

This "assult on shop workers" - are they going to build new prisons as prisons are full from what I have seen on telly.

Small shops are suffering big time and for some its the last straw, ie theft from their shop that makes the shop/s close down

"Labour has been calling for thougher action for attacks on shop workers for over ten years." Possibly true but its easier to rant when you are nit in pwoer

AIBU to feel this new 'stand alone retail crime' rule/law will be as effective as stopping the boat people from across the water?

Shop worker

Assault of shop workers to be made specific criminal offence

The PM says shops must be able to trade free from abuse but Labour argues ministers have been slow to act.

Relatively wealthy developed democracies largely get the society and politics they deserve.

The state we're in is a result of the voting preferences of the population over decades. The country has collectively favoured a First Past the Post system that delivers a Tory Govt most of the time, and that comes with fairly predictable consequences. In the rare rare exceptions when the Tories are out of power, the incoming Labour Govt is constrained by the conservatism of the English electorate.

So we rinse and repeat the same failed policies, then blame politicians when they don't work. Had those politicians stood on a platform that would have actually moved the dial on any of this, they wouldn't be in government as the English electorate would've rejected them.

So you get populist gimmicks like this in place of meaningful attempts to resolve complex issues, as politics here is both completely dysfunctional, and the majority of people will oppose any attempt to make it less so.
