To ask if volunteering helps get a new job?

I’m currently working but searching for a job closer to home. In the past, where I have got an interview, I’ve usually got the job. However my applications so far have not got me interviews. I’m mid 40s and wondering if age puts employers off.
Even if age is blanked out, they would be able to make a guess by seeing work history.
Racking my brains to think what could help. I would enjoy volunteering so I’m wondering to give that a shot even for a few hours a week to add to my CV.
Any thoughts?
Any other ideas to help get interviews?
Thanks

Are you putting your actual age/dob on your CV? If so don’t. It sounds like your CV might need updating, can anyone you know take a look at it for you?

Also, as PP have said, it’s less about the CV and more about the person spec/covering letter. If you’re hitting all the points on there then you’ll be taken through to interview. Could it be that that’s the are you need to work on?

It would help if it gives you experience that the jobs require. Do you think you’re missing that now? Is it worth asking on here some more industry specific questions?

Hi, thanks all - I’m currently working.
I haven’t put my age or DOB on CV but have put eg X job 2008- As for many years I was in the same role ( until 2019)
In 2019 I changed role. So re ‘from 2008’ they would know that I’m a certain age.
Is it ok to use bullet points on a cover letter. I DIDNT do this, and my cover letter wasn’t overly long but I’m now thinking would they prefer bullet points of how one fits the person spec/ job criteria etc??
Thanks so much.
