Cleaning your shoes with the office dishwashing brush...

Just watched a colleague do this in the office kitchen, she was using the sink brush to dust her suede boots... AIBU or this is super weird?!
She rinsed the brush after but I wouldn't want to wash my lunch box with this brush now...

Unforgivable.

KoolKookaburra · 09/04/2024 09:16

Gross Misconduct

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 09/04/2024 09:17

Maybe there is only one office brush for everything. Please check there is a separate toilet brush......

Overrrreee · 09/04/2024 09:17

Oh wow that’s disgusting!! Did you say anything?

Definitely go and throw that brush away!

WonderingWanda · 09/04/2024 09:18

That's really grim. Did you say something to her like "Ew, that's gross, we use that to wash up our dishes" or did loudly warn other office uses "I've chucked the dish brush out because this minger has just used it to clean her shoes....I suspect the sink could do with a bleach too".

Gangstamummy · 09/04/2024 09:18

🤢
(and I’ve got pretty low standards)

Overrrreee · 09/04/2024 09:20

I know this is slightly passive aggressive, but if you wanted to avoid confrontation and stop it from happening again, you could email the company and say “I had to throw the brush away because I saw someone cleaning their shoes with it”.

Or just tell the person in charge of buying supplies and they’ll likely send an email saying similar.

Ella31 · 09/04/2024 09:22

I'm not normally one for passive aggressive messages, but this warrants a sign above the sink 🤣🤣

Seems to me an appropriate response and not 'passive aggressive' at all.

Using the kit meant for cleaning eating utensils for any other purpose in a shared environment is simply not on.

I just mean, she wouldn’t be confronting him / her directly but via work email instead. Even though I’m not suggesting naming them.

I’d do it though - I think one of those cases where mild pass agg is warranted!

Haydenn · 09/04/2024 10:06

I’d never class anything washed in the office sink as clean. I’d rinse with boiling water from the kettle to take home and wash up there. Office sponges and cleaning kit are 🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🤮

mommybear1 · 09/04/2024 10:09

Good Christ - this reminds me why I always just bring my mug/glass etc home and never use the office sink. 🤮

Bearbookagainandagain · 09/04/2024 11:33

I didn't confront her, it wouldn't really be acceptable I think, it's a very corporate environment and I didn't know her. I did stare very obviously though but she didn't seem uncomfortable at all.

I'm tempted but not sure HR would appreciate the passive aggressive email 😂
I could tell the reception team though, that's a good shout!

Why didn’t you just ask “why are you doing that you dirty slob”?

CointreauVersial · 09/04/2024 11:37

Sorry, I would have said something....."err, excuse me, that's not very hygienic to clean your shoes with a brush people use on mugs and cutlery."

I can't believe anyone would think that was acceptable!

@Bearbookagainandagain

I hope you're either taking your stuff home to wash or you're bringing in your own sponge/cloth. 🌹
