Would you ever say it out loud?
just read it on another thread and it’s left me feeling slightly queasy.

It's bad form starting a thread to slag off something someone said on a different thread @SafetyFootwearMustBeWorn

Exactly. Don't yum on your yuck.

I've read it, don't care for it. But I hate the words "yum" or "yummy". Especially when used by adults who aren't talking to babies at the time.

Ugh, me too, so twee.

Frumpyfrau · 08/04/2024 12:32

I misread that as “snack on your yum.” 🙈In my defense, I’m hungry!

MogTheMoogle · 08/04/2024 12:42

I've seen in more in food context though I don't doubt its been a kink thing

Kind of like "one man's trash is another's treasure", which still feels like an equally poor phrase implying someone is so grateful for rubbish...

See also, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all...

I feel no-one really says it...instead they just say something like "don't be so judgy", "no-one cares if you don't like it" "no-one is asking you to eat it" etc.

KreedKafer · 08/04/2024 13:36

The words 'yuck' and 'yum' both make me cringe in any context so 'to yuck on your yum' is my worst nightmare as a phrase.

Not really sure why anyone would need to use it when you could express the same sentiment by saying 'Don't piss on other people's chips'.

SlowlyLurking · 08/04/2024 13:41

I absolutely hate it but so many people say it 🫣

NooNakedJacuzziness · 08/04/2024 13:55

The only thing worse would be to "ick on your shtick"

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 08/04/2024 13:57

Never heard of it before seeing this thread. I don't like it.

seafronty · 08/04/2024 13:59

Some people are very weird.

SirenSays · 08/04/2024 14:01

Never said it but I've seen it hundreds of times. Usually trotted out when someone starts being a dick about something someone else enjoys, that could be food, sex, shoe brands, anything...

MisterNorrell · 08/04/2024 14:35

Like a previous poster, I've mostly seen it online in the context of someone screeching "Don't kink shame meeeeee". I suppose it's similar to "raining on someone's parade", "piss on your chips", but in my mind those to imply being heavily critical/negative/spiteful about something that someone else is happy or excited about. Whereas "don't yuck my yum" seems to be used to mean "don't you dare express a dissenting opinion, why aren't you validating me and every choice I make and choose to post about online?!"

For that reason (and the infantile language) I really dislike it.

For some reason this thread has reminded me of 'He cracked on the whack' from Oops Upside Your Head, which sounds like a drug reference but isn't, I think. 😁

XenoBitch · 08/04/2024 19:30

I have seen it as "don't yuk someone else's yum", and that was on MN about adults enjoying Disney.
