Cleaning

Been cleaning for a family for quite a while now, it's clear they don't clean in between my fortnightly visits. Always A LOT to clean, 💩 in toilets every time. I had a message to say I left a mirror 'smeary'. No thank you for cleaning the rest of the house, and it's not small. I feel like telling them where to stick it. AIBU? I feel it's unfair to complain about 1 mirror when they happily leave poo for me to scrub off three toilets, and often after the husband has just used the toilet

Does it pay well?

Kittykatkate83 · 07/04/2024 22:29

£15 per hr, I do three hours

I'd look for new clients - I think that's really disrespectful. Very unpleasant.

Beatrixslobber · 07/04/2024 22:33

Can you afford to lose them as a client?

OrigamiOwls · 07/04/2024 22:35

If you can afford to lose them as clients or replace them quickly then I'd do so.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 07/04/2024 22:35

christ who leaves poo in the toilet? i would embarrass them on purpose and leave a note saying please make
sure no remnants of faeces are left in the toilet before i attempt to clean it

gamerchick · 07/04/2024 22:35

You don't have to keep them. Or put your prices up. Personally if go for the latter, might make it feel worth it.

ThePoshUns · 07/04/2024 22:37

That's so disrespectful, I have a weekly cleaner but top up in between myself.
I check my toilets and clean them if needs be on the day she comes.
They are minging.

ChellyT · 08/04/2024 02:05

Please consider increasing your hourly rate.

ANGIEPANGY77 · 08/04/2024 03:00

I've just hired a cleaner. She is paid $150 per visit and is here twice a month. I live in an USA southern state. I think you are being seriously underpaid.

coffeewithmilk · 08/04/2024 03:03

I would be finding new clients if you can afford it.
For reference, I have a cleaner and pay €50 for 2.5 hours and I would never dream of leaving a dirty toilet for her to clean.

Definitely.

And tell them scrubbing shit off toilets is £5 per toilet extra.

Absolutely this!

These people are vulgar

kitchenhelprequired · 08/04/2024 05:33

We lived outside the UK and used a cleaning service who charged more for fortnightly than weekly cleaning. Many people wouldn't do much themselves in between fortnightly cleaning so maybe you could have a rate for weekly cleaning and a higher rate for fortnightly or a minimum number of hours being higher for fortnightly cleaning to reflect the fact it very often requires a deeper clean than weekly.

MinnieMountain · 08/04/2024 05:45

Our cleaner charges £15 an hour, so your rates depend on where you are.
However, the rest is not on. Sack them.

RiderofRohan · 08/04/2024 05:45

Yuck. They sound rank.

I live in a small 2 bed house and my cleaner comes weekly for two hours. We pay £17.5 an hour. Truth is she never does everything ( is an amazing cleaner nonetheless). But she is only in the house for two hours a week! We're quite aware that it's up to us, the actual people who live there, to keep the place tidy in between.

They clearly have high standards for you but none for themselves. If you can afford it, don't go back.

Cat2024 · 08/04/2024 05:52

The client seems unreasonable in their behaviour and expectations.

i used to use a fortnightly cleaning company before Covid. It cost £70 per clean and was thorough.

But in the week they weren’t there, I would do a maintenance clean that took at least an hour and the night before they came, we would all do a good tidy, empty bathroom bins and make sure toilets were clean. It made sense to me to do this so that the cleaners could actually spend their time, you know, cleaning!

From what I have heard, not everyone gets that this needs to be done in most households though. Maintaining a household to a decent standard is a hard job imho. When the cleaning company came round to give a quote and assess the job, we talked about this but that might have been as I mentioned what I should do to ‘help’ in between.

Either talk to your clients (may be awkward now though depending how n what they are like), give them notice that you need to raise the price and/or be prepared to lose them (may not be a big loss??)

Anonymouslyposting · 08/04/2024 08:52

I have to say, I have a weekly cleaner and we don’t clean in between her visits. But we do do basic maintenance (we do not leave poo in the loo and wipe up spills etc.) We also pay for 5 hours a week as we know there will be a lot of work and I have never texted my cleaner to complain about a streaky mirror (or anything else). If she was consistently leaving the mirrors streaky I might mention it and ask she improves what she’s doing or else leaves it for me to do but complaining about a one off is a bit much.

If you don’t want to clean the house tell them you can’t do it anymore, but I wouldn’t get into an argument with them about it.
