Would you email recruiter or wait?

I applied for a job today. The job pack says I must include details for two referees. When applying it had:

  • a page for personal details such as name, address, phone number
  • a page for uploading cover letter
  • a page for uploading cv
  • a page for monitoring (info such as ethnicity, religion, etc)
  • I assumed when I clicked next it would ask me for referees but it was actually the end of the application process.

I have two referees, I just haven't included them and am kicking myself as think this is going to make me look like I can't read the bloody application properly!

My application is very comprehensive and I have spent a lot of time on it.

Would you
a) reapply with references
b) email with references
c) do nothing as they don't contact them until they've offered you the job anyway

Ugh, I'm an idiot!

I've just had an automatic email from them with an email address for if I want to ask questions about the role and recruitment process. Tempted to email referees here.

They won't need your referees unless they offer you the job op.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 07/04/2024 19:56

But you could just email them the details anyway.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 07/04/2024 19:56

Aren't your references on your CV?

I think I'm just overthinking as it explicitly asks to include two references. It hadn't slipped my mind. I've spoken to both of them. I just haven't included them. Attention to detail is a big part of this role and I'm working myself up that I've made myself look like I don't have this skill!

No.

Just do a follow up email with an apology and the referees.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 07/04/2024 19:59

Don't worry!
Just mail the recruiter to say you have applied and here are your refs to go with application. It's not a big deal.
If they offer you an interview it will be based on your cv and cover letter.
Good luck!

Indeed
these head hunters only get paid once someone gets a job and they accept
All jobs paying over `50k these days often result in an interview, test and then a informal chat/visit - often if you get the 3rd, they will offer you the job

Recruiter here 🙋🏽‍♀️

Most companies won’t ask for a reference until they make an offer. I work for a large retailer and we don’t ask for references up front.

Secondly, if the application process didn’t give you the option to add references in at any specific point, then despite what the pack says, you haven’t done anything wrong. If they want references beforehand, they should give you the option to include them as part of the application.

However, if you’re unsure then email them and just say you’re aware you had to provide references, however you couldn’t see anywhere on the application process to upload those details. And then include them on the email.

If the rest of your cv etc looks good they won't hesitate to contact you. They didn't include a section for the references so you've given them what they asked for. References are usually utilised later in the process. There is absolutely no way a recruiter would miss out on a good candidate because they didn't include references in the application.

Recruiters

often call head hunters for jobs that exceed 90k-ish

Littlebelina · 07/04/2024 20:35

I had something similar when applying recently. I'd put mine on my cv but when I got the job they asked me for them anyway. So I wouldn't worry too much or do what browneyes77 suggests
