To report an off licence?

HotChocWine · 06/04/2024 19:37

Long story short, off licence sold vodka to a 17 year old, that my 15 year old drank and we ended up in a and e as he was unresponsive

We have been told where it was bought, I was debating letting Trading Standards know about it

Do you have proof?

SevenSeasOfRhye · 06/04/2024 19:39

Was it dodgy vodka?

Eloraa · 06/04/2024 19:39

I would! No idea what would happen, though.

Londonrach1 · 06/04/2024 19:39

Did your 17 year old use photo proof of age
...your 15 year old didn't buy it so irrelevant. Do you have proof they sold it underage...

Flamingogirl08 · 06/04/2024 19:42

No I'd teach my 17 year old to not feed vodka to their younger sibling because it won't be long before they can legally buy it anyway.

Bushmillsbabe · 06/04/2024 19:43

Yes you should.
They can ask to see the cctv
Does your 17 year old have fake ID? The rule is they are supossed to challenge anyone who looks under 25 for ID

IncognitoUsername · 06/04/2024 19:43

You could report them but you would need proof. Did the 17 year old have fake ID or did the shop not check?

Justmuddlingalong · 06/04/2024 19:44

I think the shop selling alcohol to an underage customer is a totally separate issue.
The shop, your 17yo and your 15yo are all responsible.
Was the 17yo ID'd, do they have a fake ID, or were they not asked?

Whitewatergrafting · 06/04/2024 19:45

And what are you doing to educate and reinforce safe boundaries around alcohol with your 15 year old?

HelloMiss · 06/04/2024 19:47

Who was the 17 year old?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 06/04/2024 19:48

Hope he’s feeling better now and yes I would absolutely report - another (stupid but most of us did it and survived kid) might not.

NavyPeer · 06/04/2024 19:48

An 18 year old could have legally bought your child the vodka and shared it with them to the exact same result

they clearly aren’t far off having legal drinking age friends if 17 year olds are sharing alcohol with them. I

i think you need to redirect your energy elsewhere if your fifteen year old is being allowed this level of freedom with such poor judgement

you also have zero proof of sale and a fake ID could have been used any way

CaterhamReconstituted · 06/04/2024 19:49

Yes of course, because shit parenting is the off licence’s fault…

BCBird · 06/04/2024 19:50

Your child and the 17y old are at fault too. Did the 17 y old use ID?

Kimmeridge · 06/04/2024 19:57

The off licence is the least of your problems. Before you go reporting anyone I'd be getting the full story from the 17 year old as I'd put money on them using a fake ID to get it

Even IF the shop sold to a 17 year old they didn't force a 15 year old to drink themselves into unconsciousness

ASighMadeOfStone · 06/04/2024 20:00

Agree with the above.

Direct your energy towards encouraging your 15 year old not to drink till they need A&E.

CRE2024 · 06/04/2024 20:04

Shit parenting???? Eh???

Anyway. No I don't think you're being unreasonable to report this. It is a very basic responsibility of licensed premises to not sell alcohol to children and those under 18.

Nail123 · 06/04/2024 20:06

Think you need to put your efforts into stopping your 15 year old from underage drinking.

HotChocWine · 06/04/2024 20:06

To clarify it was not my 17 year old who bought the vodka
It was my 15 year old who ended up in hospital

I wouldn’t bother. Your teen will get hold of alcohol in one way or another. Focus on that.
