At work I’m part of a project team, we’re now finally at the part where suppliers are coming in to pitch to our specification.

The project manager has gone to my manager to ask me not to join the pitches as there are too many people.

I’m new to the company and it’s just made me feel shit.

Way to make you feel included OP, it's not very nice. Is there a task your manager wants ongoing whilst the pitches happen?
Maybe the manager wants you to pay your dues before you are included into a jolly and/or she wants to make sure you know who's boss.
Either way it's unlikely to be personal, don't let it the btds grind you down.

If its true that they dont need that many people in the room, it makes sense to have the newer or more junior staff sit out. We have done that where I work for certain meetings.

So I'm sure its nothing personal. Just a pecking order thing. But I do get that it feels shit! Sorry op.

And also, people are coming in for a pitch. An audience or extra bodies in the room is not really needed for that.

friggingno · 04/04/2024 23:07

'Extra bodies' are part of the inclusion policy bit, so it's counterproductive to not let OP participate. Not everyone there will be a decision maker. OP could have learnt some stuff maybe or put forward something pertinent.

That doesn’t make sense to me, how will anyone learn otherwise?

Are you young OP? This sort of thing would have bothered me at 22, but now I’m a lot older it wouldn’t bother me in the least. Prob be a relief to have less work to do.
