To expect a call back from the GP sooner than 7 week?

Had a phone consultation with my GP a couple of weeks ago for my daughter who has been having (very infrequent) heart palpitations. She was sent for blood tests which happened on Tuesday. Had a text today to say the GP wants to discuss the blood tests results so they have booked her in for another phone appointment - in 7 weeks!!! (When she will be at school but this is a minor part of the issue!!) When I went back to express my concern that it was so long they said it was just a routine appointment the GP requested so that was the earliest available. I am split between being worried that there is an issue and this is a very long time to wait and also thinking it can't be anything serious or an earlier call would have been booked. (I realise this is the result of Conservative policy / underfunding- but 7 weeks??!!)

Ask them to message through to the GP and check they're OK with that time frame. If they are then I'd wait. Similar happened to me and when I mentioned it to the GP (who I saw with my child the following day) she asked reception to make a more urgent appointment.

Hi OP

I reading this as results are nothing to worry about but they will review in 7 weeks, it happens

However, for peace of mind, give them a call and request results as you can and confirm there is no confusion re the 7 week appt.

Caution advised. Trying to read multiple FBC tests and more can be misleading, so think hard if you want to read the results as it may lead to necessary worry - I've done that.

Good luck

PS: You can seek an appt sooner tell them you are worried and want to know why 7 weeks etc

You could also request a copy of the results from the receptionists (they're hard copy printed in my surgery but don't know if others send differently), anything out of range is normally highlighted by pathology. I've found this has put my mind at rest knowing what's out of range rather than the weeks of worrying about an unknown. Appreciate this approach isn't for everyone.
