Lighthearted - AIBU to ask where all the fluff in my hair comes from?

I have long, thick, curly, dry hair. It knots a lot (often literally within hours of me washing and brushing it). Quite regularly I end up with bad knots that when untangled have fluff at the centre of them. My sister gets the same. Where does the fluff come from? How does it get in there? It's not like there's fluff lying around the house - so what is it?

NB in case others don't suffer this affliction - it's not like dust or something, it's like material fibres, the most recent fluff was blue.

Why?!

It sucks but not as bad as when bugs get tangled in it in summer...

I think it's clothing fibres like the ones that make the fluff in the tumble dryer. My daughter has barely any hair yet still manages to get a kind of tangled horn on the back of her head and it invariably has a bit of fluff at the core!

Like a bit of sand in an oyster, I think the fluff 'seeds' the tangle and encourages the hair to knot around it.

For years I've wondered why there's always fluff in my hairbrush...

I would love to know the answer to this too!

I cleaned my brushes the other day and the fluff amongst the hair was huge!
It gets caught in the spikes.
