To ask any personal trainers on here about running and hiit

Posting here for traffic.
I run for an hour 3 times a week and do hiit for an hour twice a week. I want to make sure it shouldn't be the other way around though because my knees aren't what they were, now I'm 38. Thank you 😊

A personal trainer won't be able to answer that - they have very little, if any, anatomy training. You need a physio

The belief that running is bad for your knees has been largely debunked: multiple studies have shown that regular running strengthens the knees and actually protects against development of osteoarthritis later in life. Three hours a week of running is completely normal.

I have ran for many years, now 49. My knees are buggered. But, osteoarthritis runs in my family, I have muscularskeletal issues as well. I also learnt I had muscle imbalances that effected my knees too.

Point is, running is not the issue, it is likely there are other issues causing the issues with your knees, I agree with the pp. A physio is your best bet. They will have more knowledge of anatomy any they will assess you and advise you.

I still get out running, I have adapted it though an do other exercises that strengthen my knees which are specific to me.

Whether or not you are likely to end up with any damage to your knees is individual - eg related to running patterns/gait. Running is a repetitive movement so when people do suffer issues it's more that the frequent running exacerbates minor issues that escalate over time, not because running is in itself is problematic. As others have mentioned you're best seeing a physio for advice/assessment if it's something you're worried about.
