To ask for your experiences of colonoscopy, super nervous

Hi

Been referred for an urgent colonoscopy due to a high result from a FIT test.

Should I take the sedation route or just gas & air? How bad is it, really? If I'm sedated will I still feel it? Please be honest, I'm feeling worse about this than I was labour! The thought of something going up my backside is just bleugh.

When I do the prep, do I need my DH home to watch baby? She is nearly 11 months and I can't exactly lock her in the toilet with me and by the sounds of it when I'll need to go, there is no stopping it so can't rush around putting her in play pen etc.

All done thank god. Had the max dose of sedation as I've got endometriosis they said if endometriosis is there it can be a bit more painful. They gave me gas and air at one stage because it was really uncomfortable. They won't give me results until my husband is here to collect me as they said I probably won't remember what they've said to me in a couple of hours 🤦🏻‍♀️

Agree with other posters. I would definitely take the sedation and pain relief - you still feel it but it doesn’t hurt as such, you just feel pressure. The dr said to me that some people choose not to have either and are OK, but that can depend upon whether there is a ‘kink’ in the bowel - if there is, it will be more painful but they don’t generally know this until they start the procedure.

Agree! I can’t do moviprep. It makes me vomit.

I had mine 4 weeks ago, the prep is awful try putting dilute in it,not blackcurrant. Once the prep got going I just stayed on the toilet for a hour it was pointless getting off. I opted for the sedation but changed my mind because I needed to be at work day after. The procedure for me was tolerable, only thing what caused discomfort was when the camera turns in your stomach, but I had gas and air and was OK. Staff talk to you and put you at ease, you can also watch it on the screen. Good luck hope it goes well👍

Came home and got straight into bed and just woke up, had a lovely sleep lol got McDonald's on the way home and it was heavenly 😂

I have diverticulitis which I need to sort out with a high fibre diet, they took some biopsies but no cancer found thank god.

Glad it not bad news OP.

Smallyeti · 12/04/2024 19:41

You must be so relieved it’s something that can be managed with a change of diet OP. McDonalds and a good sleep were just what were needed after that.

ooooohnoooooo · 12/04/2024 21:39

So pleased that it behind you (sorry 😂😬). It's good that it's a manageable condition and nothing sinister.

I hope that you get it under control soon and start to feel better 😽😊
