I had mine out by keyhole and really it was fine. Do remember if you get a pain in your shoulder it's nothing sinister as l hadn't heard about that and got a bit anxious. Ask for pain killers.
No fat diet for 3 weeks..lost a stone!! Few days to recover but took it easy for longer as it is surgery. Stitches melted away.
Really it's fine and nothing as bad as that gall bladder pain so it was great to have that gone.
I have had absolutely no issue with food since and neither has Dh who had his out recently

Can I ask why you ladies had the surgery? Did you have symptoms?
I don't have symptoms but polyps have been found.

Hi I had surgery having terrible symptoms for 2 years. Came right out of nowhere one day!

RainingOnMyFace · 04/04/2024 00:36

Did you have to wait two years for surgery? :-(

ChedderGorgeous · 04/04/2024 00:46

Just to say, everyone's experience will be slightly different depending on the indication (stones, stones plus inflamed gallbladder, pancreatitis from stones, GB polyps) and what's encountered in the operation (GB thick walled and full of stones or thin walled and easy to dissect, for example). Some people need a plastic drain from their abdomen afterwards for a day or so, some people may be home the day or the next.
What I'm saying is every op is slightly different and just make sure you speak to your surgeon (before and) afterwards to discuss and expected discharge / any follow up.

Shoulder tip pain really feels like I'll have been punched in the shoulder but eases with time !

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 04/04/2024 00:53

I felt very sick after the operation. I was off my food for about three weeks, which in my case was no bad thing. 😂

Overall, it really wasn’t too bad.

I've had worse trips to the dentist. Went in at 12.30, theatre at 1.30, back in bed by 3.00pm, was at home sat watching soaps by 7.00pm. I drove the day after, was a bit bruised but other than that I was fine, had fish & chips when I got home from hospital with ni after effects.

Nat6999 · 04/04/2024 01:02

On your way to hospital, call at chemists for Rennie Deflatine & peppermint oil capsules for gas pain, start taking them as soon as you get back on the ward, also buy some Arnica tablets to get rid of the bruising.

When they did the final name check just before they put me under, they realised I was in the wrong theatre! That’s why they do it… I always wondered what I would have had removed if they hadn’t noticed!

Actual GB op in the theatre next door was very straightforward, they woke me up by rattling these babies in my ear.

I think it was being upside down for the 2 hours of the op. The robot prefers that position. My head was pointing at the floor.

You should have been slightly head up for a gallbladder removal.
Head down is for working in the pelvis. It helps to get the bowels out of the way.

ageratum1 · 04/04/2024 06:19

I had mine done as a daycare .In at 7.3 o, surgery at 9, home at 4.30.Very sleepy afterwards and tired for a couple of days but otherwise fine.

Stones and really bad pain, later found out a stone got stuck in the pancreatic duct and damaged it which led to a pancreas disease and major surgery to remove part of that. I always tell people not to delay getting surgery for stones. Not sure re polyps

jeez that’s scary, good job for final checks! They wouldn’t let me keep my stones, said they threw it away whole

Tourmalines · 04/04/2024 06:33

Had mine removed 10 years ago with keyhole surgery . In one night , home the next day . Simple operation., no problems, I just took it easy for about a week with walking and lifting. I was back to work after that week . Those gallbladder attacks I use to get were sometimes so excruciating, so it was the best thing I ever did .

Louu247 · 04/04/2024 07:02

Well today is the day! Just getting booked in now! Bricking it!

Thank you! I've found a polyps friend!

How were yours found and how long were you on the waiting list?

I'm 40 and want a baby but they took me off the list when I got pregnant then it was a faff to get me back on when I miscarried.

Sorry to hear that, how big is your pollop? And I had discomfort under my right rib so they done an ultrasound. 2mm pollop was found xx

OP posts:
RainingOnMyFace · 04/04/2024 11:38

It was 8mm in Sept 22 and by Feb 23 had grown to 10mm. They haven't done a scan since then.
I'm interested that they want to operate at 2mm, they told me it had to be 10, but we are probably in different parts of the country. I am in Yorkshire.

I believe over 10mm and there's a tiny bit of a possibility it could go to cancer. But tiny.
