To be frustrated with the NHS

6 weeks ago I sprained my ankle badly at the gym. Foot snapped backwards, lots of swelling, couldn’t bear weight without significant pain. NHS 111 advised I stay home and RICE. (Not to drip feed - I also previously broke this ankle after a car accident)

3 weeks after calling 111, my ankle was still swollen to same extent & painful. GP gave me a fit note & said I should have had an x-ray when it happened.

fast forward another 3 weeks, I have been unable to get a GP appointment but same symptoms persist after following advice. Swelling hasn’t subsided & pain is radiating to my knee.

Checked my local minor injuries/urgent centre website to try and get a x-ray, which advises to call NHS 111 before attending.

NHS 111 advised I go to A&E instead.

A&E booked me an appointment with the urgent treatment centre tomorrow and said to go home as I’d be in for a long wait.

Aibu to just feel frustrated? Just worried about long term damage to my leg/movement as it doesn’t seem to be healing

TBF to all involved, you could have gone to a minor injuries any time in the last 6 weeks, 111 cant diagnose or rule out a fracture over the phone, the only way to do so is with an xray. Its frustrating being passed from pillar to post definitely, and its unfortunate that individual agencies across the NHS give differing advice, but if you feel you need an xray following an accident, then you need to go to A&E or minor injuries.

You should have gone to minor injuries when you first did it.

You should have just gone straight to A&E when it happened. You couldn't weight bear and were in significant pain. You needed an x-ray.
