... by a friend who has no SALT qualification and no experience of speech delay.

I can do without it, frankly.

its a slow process thats for sure. We had concerns about DS speech when he was 2. He didnt give eye contact either and disliked cuddles.Me and his dad went to Hanan classes I thought at 1st it wouldnt help much but being aware of how we spoke to him helped us.we started sitting at his level to talk using few words.yip waiting 10 sec for him to answer gave him time to process any questions.Trying to ask questions that didnt require a yes or no answer.Hes 4 now and attends speech therapy hes been diagnosed with pragmatic speech disorder but is coming along well.he is now like a limpet, loves cuddles and chats all the time. He seems to have a drone to his voice and doesnt pronounce words very well but hey hes a happy intelligent little boy.But I understand how worried u will be. Best wishes

i feel your pain,i am constantly being told dd will catch up or is being lazy,by well meaning people, she is 3.7 and understands little,i wish it was as simple!

at Moondog's advice. I am going to follow that myself with regard to my son's speech, complete lack of sleep, behaviour, social interaction, obsessions, phobias, meltdowns, restricted diet, lack of potty-training and EVERYTHING!

(Well perhaps I might tone it down a little bit for DH's 90 year old Grandmother who can cure autism apparently with starvation and the strap or whatever it is they were allowed to get away with then)

Your son is lovely emkana, don't be annoyed, either let her have it or lose her. You deserve better.

I took the SALT's advice, and dd2, who was a year behind at 2 yrs 10 months, gained 6 months development in 3 weeks.

The only advice I ever had from a non qualified person was Go see a SALT.

OMG, just realised this is 2 years old but thought it was current and was assuming misdee was expecting dc5!
