Or is this dr a bit nuts.

Asked the dr at the fracture clinic (not UK) to extend my sicknote today and he refused as he thinks I'm fine to return to class (currently a student). He said it takes 6 weeks for a fracture to heal and it's been 6 weeks and as a student all I have to do is sit and listen and write so I'm not stopped from doing that.

Problem is, I fractured my shoulder 6 weeks ago but it wasn't healing. So 4 weeks ago I had surgery. I am not allowed to move my arm or shouldet until cleared by the surgeon. That appointment isn't for another 2 weeks.

I'm still in pain, although it gets better every day. I'm exhausted as I still have to sleep upright, so don't sleep well. I can only wear oversized t-shirts and leggings. As a larger, older lady this means my breasts knocking on my knees and my butt looks like two overripe watermelons fighting in a sack so I only go out for medical appointments as it's embarrassing.

But most of all, I can't drive. My school isn't far away, easy walking distance for most people. But I use a rollator. The physiotherapist said I must not use it until cleared by the surgeon at the appointment in 2 weeks. But even then I may not be able to use it as I'll have to have physiotherapy to build up strength in my shoulder. I won't be able to drive for 3 to 6 months for the same reason.

Do you think I'm being unreasonable asking for the decision to be reviewed? I feel so guilty, sitting on the sofa doing nothing. But at the same time, I know that having a shower took me an hour and exhausted me. Emptying the dishwasher was like some SAS endurance challenge. Am I being pathetic?

I forgot to say, I need to be signed off because of how student funding works here.

Surely you can get a sicknote off the surgeon then? Contact their secretary? The surgeon is preventing you from moving the arm, the surgeon has the final say if you're suitable to return (sounds unlikely). I'd be contacting the surgeon asking for sicknote.

That's what I've done. I'm now waiting to hear back. But I do feel so guilty. I think I have some sort of ptsd following my accident. My emotions are all over the place.

don't feel guilty. You don't sound ready to return to work even if it is "sitting and listening", the Dr who suggested this is a dick, you've still got to be functional to get to the place to listen, you have to eat, sleep, be able to wash and dress, be able to travel etc it's not just "sitting and listening".

Sometimes doctors just don’t listen! Many years ago I had a small cyst removed from under my breast. I had a sore wound with stitches. When I came out of hospital I had to go to the GP to ask for a sick note which was refused. I explained that the position of the wound prevented me from wearing a bra. Still refused. I left, and made an appointment with a different doctor at the practice who happily signed me off for a further week. Are there any other doctors you could see? Or will your surgeon provide the certification or backdate it? Hope you’re feeling better soon.

If you think you may have PTSD then contact your uni well-being service as well or NHS Talking Therapies.

NHS probably wont apply

Just checked my online journal as I've not heard anything from the hospital. The surgeon has signed me off for a further 5 weeks, not just the 2 I was hoping for. I'm so relieved.
