To be confused how weight works

So I go on the scales before bed and then when I go in them first thing in the morning the weight is exactly the same than the night before. But if I go on them an hour later then it's dropped a little (if I haven't had breakfast yet). Is that normal?

Honestly sounds like you're going on the scales too often! Most people go to the loo when they get up. Probably that.

Kalevala · 02/04/2024 10:51

If you've used the toilet, yes.

If you pee, poo, breathe, etc in that hour then your weight will reduce

I’m not sure bathroom scales are massively accurate - mine come up with a different weight depending on which bit of the bathroom floor I put them on.

ameeturtle · 02/04/2024 10:53

I use the '3 times' rule. Step on then off, each time noting your weight. Whatever is the lightest, that's your weight.

Rosestulips · 02/04/2024 10:54

I’m always less on a morning. I try to weigh after I’ve been to the loo and before I’ve eaten which isn’t always possible depending on my body.

how much difference are you talking?

Like a pound or 2 even. (I'm currently trying to lose weight in a calorie deficit and walking 10k)

So then you just always weigh yourself on the same part of the bathroom floor. They don't have to be totally accurate, just accurate enough that someone can track their weight loss or gain.

mightydolphin · 02/04/2024 11:01

You just need to try to weigh yourself at the same time of day to give you the most accurate idea of your weight loss. We all fluctuate.

brunettemic · 02/04/2024 11:12

Weight is hugely affected by water. If you want a decent approach weigh yourself at the same time for 7 days and average it.

WittiestUsernameEver · 02/04/2024 11:14

Stop weighing yourself twice a day! No need.

Pick a time and weigh once a week. Track over 6 months and see.

Ponoka7 · 02/04/2024 11:18

The best thing for most women is to take measurements. If you have clothing that's a bit tight, keep trying it on. I know that not losing keeps you on track, but it's as much about body fat and a change in size/shape as overall weight.

inneedofaglowup · 02/04/2024 11:23

Yes I have noted to weigh myself the same time of the day. I just want to get out of the "80 something kg" bracket of weight which I think will make me a bit more relaxed.

I'll then do my weigh in twice a week instead.
