Partner and I work full time. Universal credit? Is this right?

Obviously everyone is struggling with the cost of living, and the fear of our new nursery bills is making me feel sick and just not knowing what I can actually do.

I was under the impression that we wouldn’t be able to claim universal credit because we have a mortgage and both work and have semi-decent salaries (below average but enough to pay bills ect)

I’ve done a universal credit calculator thing and it’s returning that we can claim £1400ish in universal credit. Surely that’s not right? I’ve been back through my answers and everything is what we get ect.

Really? It just seems too good to be true.

Anyone thinking they may be eligible for some UC can call the Citizens Advice Help to Claim line 08001448444. They will assess your situation and offer a benefit calculation. They will help start your claim if you need more support. They will also check your first UC payment to make sure it is correct.

It is independent of the DWP, and the H2C advisers will try to ensure you are claiming everything you are entitled. Please don't call the job centre to find out your eligibility - they are not going to be much help.

Interesting. Doesn't effect me as own my house - was curious

I think it's good people can get help for rent and childcare - as long as working / which they have to be for uc

You don’t have to be working to receive UC

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2024 19:37

No meant for childcare

Childcare costs are huge so good they can get help is what I meant if working

Reece. You can't help your lining

Well yes that's what medication and scans are for. To check the sodding lining to make sure it's thick enough BEFORE thaw the embryo

Sorry wrong thread

If you do start a claim, I'd leave till next week. The increase in rates starts on 8 April, so what you'll be entitled to (if anything) will be more.

UC doesn't pro rata, so the rates that apply on the day you claim are for the full month following that date.

This is excellent advice. Job centre staff often don't know all the ins and outs and UC is very complex.
