to expect politically correct snacks from the BBC?

Dh and I had free tickets to see a BBC show being filmed. In the break between filming they didn't want the audience to disperse so they gave us all cartons of juice and (oh no!) chocolate biscuits made by Nestle - boo! hiss! I could have murdered a chocolate biscuit but not that one.

When I pointed this out to a BBC flunky she had a blonde moment and claimed never to have heard of the Nestle boycott.

Comments from any one who works for the Beeb would be much appreciated. Shame on you!

perspective, fgs

i avoid cheerios too

but wouldn't expect the nation's premier broadcaster to give a flyin fuck

Elasticwoman · 28/03/2008 20:15

Tutter, back up your opinion with cogent arguments please.

Not even when they spend whole evenings subjecting us to Comic Relief etc and claim the moral highground in everything?

get a grip. and actually you can't expect the bbc to be biased - the boycot is personal to people who wish to observe it.

Tutter · 28/03/2008 20:19

actually, i'm now guessing you are tekkin the piss?

WigWamBam · 28/03/2008 20:21

Could have been worse.

The cartons of juice could have been Fruit Shoots.

Elasticwoman · 28/03/2008 20:21

Get a grip on what?

OP posts:
wannaBe · 28/03/2008 20:21

just mentioned this to dh and said the bbc woman hadn't heard of the boycott and dh said "of course she hasn't. most people haven't."

wannaBe · 28/03/2008 20:23

pmsl wwb.

and they could have been gregs sausage rolls instead of biscuits

.

Elasticwoman · 28/03/2008 20:23

Juice carton was quite acceptable.
Your dh is shockingly ignorant too esp if he is a father which I assume he is.
Nestle is the most boycotted company in the world and the BBC can be expected to have a grip on current affairs im not so h o.

constancereader · 28/03/2008 20:26

Wannabe's dh said that most people hadn't heard of it, not that HE hadn't.

WigWamBam · 28/03/2008 20:26

The responsibility for buying the snacks is not something that the top brass would be responsible for - that probably falls on the head of some over-worked, under-paid catering assistant who has never heard of the Nestle boycott.

Not everyone has ... I had never heard of it until I joined MN.

hercules1 · 28/03/2008 20:27

Tbh I would have been very surprised if the BBC actually did officially boycott them.

beaniesteve · 28/03/2008 20:29

I work for the Beeb. I don't think they have any kind of duty to boycot Nestle products. Surprised the BBC 'Flunky' hadn't heard of the Boycot though.

wannaBe · 28/03/2008 20:30

but being aware of the boycott and caring about it are two separate issues. Yes dh knows of the boycott, but really a lot of people don't. and a lot of people don't actually care which is evidenced by the fact that the boycott actually has done no good and nestle is one of the biggest companies worldwide.

Having a personal cause is fine, but it's your personal choice, you can't expect others to follow suit.

wheresthehamster · 28/03/2008 20:31

Look down the refreshment list for the House of Commons. Why should the BBC boycott if their masters don't?

AliciaJohns · 28/03/2008 20:31

YABU. But this thread is going to entertain me, so thankyou for that

hecate · 28/03/2008 20:31

The unforunate thing is that most people don't care. They really really don't. MN is not representative of general opinion on this issue.

beaniesteve · 28/03/2008 20:31

Oh and... the catering is probably provided by a company employed by the BBC - not by the BBC themselves.

beaniesteve · 28/03/2008 20:32

"Look down the refreshment list for the House of Commons. Why should the BBC boycott if their masters don't? "

eh?!?

Slubberdegullion · 28/03/2008 20:33

Elasticwoman, I'd never heard of the boycott until I joined MN. I tell my RL friends why I boycott nestle, none of them have heard about it until I tell them.
My friends and I are all terribly well read, graduate types too dontcha know

wannaBe · 28/03/2008 20:33

and i think that if you think everyone has heard of the boycott you are mistaken. A lot of people haven't heard of it. I hadn't heard of it until I joined mn, I think you'll find a lot of people on here would say the same.

constancereader · 28/03/2008 20:35

I was aware of the boycott from years ago, but until I joined mumsnet I thought it had been sorted out. I was obviously sadly wrong. But you are being unreasonable to expect a big organisation to share your outrage, however justifiable you feel it is.
