Husband coughing/choking

I’ll say it now - I think I’m being unreasonable. I just need someone to reassure me!

Background: I can be quite anxious from a health perspective.

DP has had a cough/cold (but more cough than cold ) for the last week and a bit. The whole household have all had a variation of it in the last 3/4 weeks.

DP is asthmatic. Controlled with an inhaler morning and evening.

No temp and he doesn’t seem to be bringing anything up although he said he felt quite mucuse-y last couple of days. Equally last couple of days if he’s done much, he goes a bit grey round the gills.

Tonight, eating his dinner and he started to really cough/gasp for breath. Not “proper” choking, as i know that’s silent. It seems he coughed and inhaled as he was eating.
So the food went down the wrong way.

He went quite purple whilst coughing and gagging (he can’t vomit as he had a fundoplication). This went on acutely for about 30 seconds and then he remained purple and gagging on and off for another 5 mins or so.

I’m concerned he has food in his lungs and that given is asthma/current cough, this will become dangerous.

He ie adamant that he is fine. However, he has form for saying he’s fine and then the next day needs a Dr app and is prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection/water infection etc.

He is sat watching tv now. Coughing on and off but I can’t say it’s any more or less than he was last night. (I will caveat that with he was coughing less this afternoon - he pointed that out himself).

He is still quite red. His eyes still still
swollen and blood shot from the coughing/choking fit.

His voice sounds croaky. It hasn’t sounded croaky until now.

AIBU to be concerned about the coughing/choking fit? Should he be checked out?

Or is my anxiety over taking?

He is adamant - no 111.

Thank you.

He’ll be fine, you should’ve slapped him between his shoulder blades to dislodge the food.

Thank you. I overthink (I think!).

Just to say I did slap his back and he was spitting bits of food out when gagging too.

Wait till he asks you to call for an ambulance. My neighbour had a stroke last year it took his wife and us to persuade him to go to the hospital.

Well that’s what I wanted to avoid!

If someone really is choking they won’t be able to ask for an ambulance.

He should still be able to vomit after a fundoplication - what if he has food poisoning or just needs to vomit??

He had this procedure about 17 years ago and was told it would mean he can’t vomit. And he hasn’t since. Although in saying that he was also told it would prevent reflux and over the last couple of years, he does get that on and off.
