Where can I take my elderly parents on holiday???

Hi
I would really like to take my parents away on holiday. My budget is about £2000 for the three of us. Couid stretch a bit more.
Parents are mobile but won't manage too much activity. Short walks etc are fine.
Ideally I would like to get a nice villa somewhere...any ideas would be hugely appreciated! Thank you!

Frinton. Old people like Frinton. 😁

Do they like hot weather or do they want to be somewhere interesting or quiet? Would they enjoy a cruise, or are they the sort of people who think it's akin to troop transport?

Do they like warm weather? Some older people can’t cope with heat.
Will they eat different foods?
I would look at somewhere like Deauville. It’s a quick hop across the channel. It’s mostly flat. It’s smart. Massive beach.
Or for guaranteed good weather perhaps Nice with the promenade des Anglais.
You’ll probably have to go early or late to get a villa and travel for £2k.
May or the end of September would be nice.

We took DH parents to Malta two years and they loved it, they’re around 70-75 years old, and enjoyed st Julian’s in the town centre for a few days to walk around and site see, took them on a boat tour which was a decent price from what I remember. Then last three days out to the beach to relax.
Took them to Dubai last year, also loved it but cost us an arm and a leg… just did Abu Dhabi and it’s a fraction of the price compared to Dubai. Still lots to see and the weather was amazing last week at 24-36 degree. Flights was around £400pp.
Spain and Portugal are always a great place when I take my parents as well

Yes warm weather is a must! A nice beach or mountains or both! They love trying new cuisines so food will be a big part of our trip

I’ve never been to Bulgaria but apparently that has beaches and mountains.

What about somewhere like Porto? Lots to see, food is great, wine and port tours. Ubers are incredibly cheap and we visited the Beach too. It’s a bit hilly but there are trams. Weather is brilliant if you pick the right time of year.

Lake Garda!

Croatia. We flew in to zadar ans stayed near Krka falls. Hugely recommend as long as someone is happy driving. Our accomodation was £600 for a week in sept and cheap flights.

Porto Pollensa in Majorca is perfect.
or fuengirola is like an open air old people’s home

mjf981 · 30/03/2024 21:28

Madeira? Isn’t that popular with elderly people?

Yes, but quite hilly.

OP are you wanting suggestions to go abroad or within the UK?

San Sebastian or Bilbao for good food
MIL loves the channel islands
A cruise around the British isles

BIossomtoes · 30/03/2024 21:32

Malta’s a good call. My parents loved it - to the point of going twice a year for about 20 years.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 30/03/2024 21:33

And Madeira is notoriously difficult to land at if the weather is bad. It’s one of the most dangerous airports in Europe. Flights are often diverted to Funchal. Keeps Flight Radar 24 spotters busy!

menopausalmare · 30/03/2024 21:36

If you want a UK break near the south coast, my parents loved Sinah Warren (spelling?) at Hayling Island.

Our neighbours in their 80's go there several times a year, and only last week had to stay an extra 2 days because the wind prevented flights leaving! I have no idea why they like it, as though it was very hilly.

Another idea OP is Malaga. Not the many coastal resorts like Marbella/Torremolinos, but Malaga city itself. It didn't feel too touristy, good food, a beach, museums and not steep/steps everywhere. We've been several times. A highlight was getting the train (cheap/easy/clean) to Rhonda to see the famous bridge.
