To request a refund/exchange on my boots?

Or shouldn't I have expected relife by Pavers to last beyond a couple of months?
The sole is coming away from the upper already but I feel like I haven't had that much wear out of them. Definitely won't be buying them again, whatever, which is annoying as they are really comfortable.

Absolutely take them back. My current winter boots are just beginning to look tired after three winters' constant wear, two months is ridiculous.

StormingNorman · 30/03/2024 18:53

I don’t know Pavers but unless the boots are faulty (rather than just poor quality) you’re not going to get any joy. The no refund after shoes have been worn outside policy is pretty standard.

That's not necessarily true schuh always used to have the policy you could return anything within a year (assuming faulty). As a student, my boyfriend used to return his shoes that he had absolutely worn the sh** out of and get a new pair!

If something isn't fit for purpose then you should get a refund.

EverySporkIsSacred · 30/03/2024 19:15

Right, must find the receipt then!

@meganorks yes I use that exact line (not fit for purpose) when returning things if I get questioned.

If you’re referring to these I wouldn’t expect Mitch more than a couple of month’s wear.

Synthetic uppers glued to moulded synthetic soles, 25 quid doesn’t buy much these days.

I’d still give it a shot though.

Should be getting better than 2 months out of those then.

YANBU.

I sell similar footwear (not for Pavers I have to add!) and deal with returns of this type @EverySporkIsSacred 😊 How long have you had them and how often have they been worn?
If you want to post pics of the damage and of the soles of the boots then I can give an opinion on how we would assess damage vs wear if that would be helpful 😊

Yeah you should definitely get more than a couple of months out of these! I’d definitely take them back, they must be faulty.

EverySporkIsSacred · 30/03/2024 21:10

@Inyourwildestdreams I've found the receipt and I bought them on the 12th January (this year obvs). I don't wear them every day, but a few times a week in all weathers for a few (two or less) hours at a time. Mainly outdoors walking on pavement.
You can barely see where they've come apart in the photo because I'm not prepared to make it worse by pulling on it.

They're clearly faulty so claim under Consumer Rights Act. As its over 30 days the shop has the choice whether to repair, replace or refund.

As it's less than 6 months then they'd have to prove that they weren't inherently faulty.

marriednotdead · 30/03/2024 21:42

I’ve worn their relife range for years without any issues, they really are super comfortable! You’ve obviously got a dud pair, hopefully you won’t have any problem getting your money back.

@EverySporkIsSacred No, don’t make it worse by pulling at it. I would definitely return these. If a customer brought these to me under the circumstances you describe I would offer a refund or an exchange (UNLESS it was clear that they had been worn through deep water which you’d be able to tell from the lining and insole) and I would send these back to our supplier to have them credited back to us.

It’s clear from the sole and the condition of the upper that they haven’t been heavily worn so unless there is clear evidence of water damage then you shouldn’t have any issue showing their fault. All stores obviously have their own policy on what they will offer you in that situation with regards to refunds/exchanges etc.

As a side note - they’re really not the best boots for wet weather. So wearing them in “all weathers” like you describe definitely will make them wear faster (still shouldn’t be as quickly as these have though!). It looks like they’re not far off the synthetic upper starting to peel.

@Inyourwildestdreams thanks for getting back to me. There really hasn't been much break from the rain here for...well, since last summer really!
What in your opinion should I be looking for in footwear that should last better?

@EverySporkIsSacred I’m west coast of Scotland so trust me, I feel your pain with the non stop rain 😂
Good quality leather footwear will always wear better than a synthetic 😊 for something decent in the rain I’d be looking for something with a Goretex lining or equivalent (be careful with these - some are only considered ‘showerproof’ and not fully waterproof).

I have leather Ecco boots with a Goretex lining for example that have just been through their 4th winter. Probably worn every 3rd day over winter for 10ish hours a day. They could do with being re-soled but other than that they’re great.
Have a look at Ecco, Joseph Seibel (with TopDryTex) & Ariat or look at Merrell for more ‘walking boot’ styles.
Naturally, you will pay more for the quality. I think my Ecco’s retailed at £180. But you’ll pick up some fab bargains heading into spring if you were able to buy now and put them away for this autumn/winter 😊

Ginkypig · 31/03/2024 22:28

Dh got a pair of their men’s lace up boots from pavers last year. On the surface they seemed ok they looked quite smart on and we’re about the same price as you paid op.

this happened to his as well, the whole front of the sole came away within 3 months.
its about an hour’s travel to return them so he decided that he would just never buy from there again.

this is a style he almost exclusively wears when not wearing trainers so he buys from various different places at different prices, he almost always gets at least a year out even a cheap pair even with very heavy use but these pavers ones have been by far the crappiest quality and lasted the least amount of time of any he’s bought in the 20 years we’ve been together.

having said that though I got a pair of slippers (fly flot) from them the same day and they are still going strong!

Ginkypig · 31/03/2024 22:31

The same day that was meant to say

edit sorry worked out how to edit the above 1st post

EverySporkIsSacred · 31/03/2024 22:57

@Inyourwildestdreams thanks, most of this I suspected already tbh, I'm just loathe to buy online and there are no good shops shops in my town any more.

@Ginkypig the shop I bought them from is too far to walk so I'll be another £4 down whatever happens getting the bus. Annoying.

OP posts:
Ginkypig · 31/03/2024 23:55

Ye the pavers we bought them from is almost another town away in a garden centre we happened to be visiting so it would have been a bit of a nightmare to return and I just couldn’t be arsed but the truth is even though it is a hassle and £4 you should and I should have because this is why shops get away with selling crap like that. We as consumers shouldn’t be complacent because we then are perpetuating the problem
