More a WWYD As the title says, I ve (probably) come down with COVID (been nursing DM whose COVID is confirmed) and it's manifesting itself in gastrointestinal symptoms. It started last night and Tmi I know but been rushing to loo every half hour or so since with watery yellow poo and throwing up every hour or two. Also running slight temperature but can't keep the paracetamol down. I've been sipping diluted vitamin water and plain water all day. Is there anything else I can do, or do I just have to wait it out?

Seems more like gastroenteritis. I would just sip water and try and ride it out. Get as much rest as you can.

Dry toast might put a lining back on your stomach

That's what I thought but Dr was out to see DM this morning and told dsis that latest COVID variant is often presenting like this

By vitamin water, do you mean rehydration powder type of stuff? If not then I would probably try and have some weak, full sugar squash instead of plain water. I always go for that and a few salted crisps when I’ve got V&D.

I would call 111 if it doesn’t ease off soon. Hope you feel better quickly!

My last bout of covid presented in the exact same way.

nonevernotever · 30/03/2024 18:48

It's a rehydration sport drink with sugar and vitamins. I thought it would be better than plain water. This is going to be outing, but I'm past caring. To make it worse my dsis had a minor stroke 4 weeks ago and should be resting, not picking up the slack with mum's care, particularly since she can't drive at the moment so she's got a mile and a half walk each way to mum's. Mum is 88 with dementia and manages on her own mostly with carers visiting three times a day for her medicine, but is struggling at the moment, particularly to get to the loo on time. DH is being wonderful as always, but unsurprisingly mum is not happy for him to change her pyjamas. Eldest niece would normally help too but lives in the block of flats in Edinburgh that caught fire two weeks ago, and hasn't even been allowed back into the block yet to see the damage or even collect car keys, handbag or other possessions. It's just been unrelenting!

@mumsie8 Do you mind me asking how long the GI symptoms lasted for you?

Thankfully, only 24 hours and then the other more "usual" symptoms took over. My children also presented in the same way. And it was only because i'd read somewhere about this new presentation of covid that I tested myself. And it came up straight away as positive. I hope you feel better soon.
