DIY on bank holiday?

I don’t feel well, cancelled plans in the hopes of feeling better for Easter itself.

My neighbour who is a selfish prick and does DIY constantly, every single day. Today I’ve been trying to just chill and he’s been on the driveway chopping wood and sawing it since 9am.

I’m not sure if the exact council restrictions but I thought bank holidays the hours were significantly reduced or you just weren’t allowed?

Even if there are restrictions today isn’t a bank holiday.

Aren't Bank Holidays when you are meant to do DIY 😂
Also it's not a BH today.....

Yabu. 9am start isn't antisocial.

You thought you weren't allowed to do DIY at all on a bank holiday?

9am on a day that isn't a bank holiday, like today, is fine.

Today isn’t a bank holiday.
Everyone here is doing gardening or DIY too as the weather is great for a change

Regardless of any bank holiday rules, it doesn't sound like that's your real issue. You have a problem with him doing it 'constantly'.

True, and 7 solid hours of it is frustrating when he already does so much in the week.

There are no legal noise hours in the UK.

Even the etiquette of general courtesy seems to vary .. some say 8am, some as late as 10am or even 11am.

However constant noise is a pain, so you have my sympathy.

Only in some parts of Europe, parts of Germany, off you go.

DIY is a tradition at bank holiday weekends here it's the only time we have the energy and time.

It’s annoying that he’s always at it and I feel this is why you’re feeling this way because just as a one off, diy at 9am on a Saturday is not unreasonable. Dh and I have been doing diy all day and we’re just taking a break now, that’s what we’ve planned to do this bank holiday. We’re not making noise though, just painting and doing some gardening.

Whattodowithit88 · 30/03/2024 16:54

Feeling a little shocked because in my world, Easter bank holiday (the four days) is national DIY holiday, where everyone is doing DIY and gardening. I don’t think I’ve never known anyone not to be doing some sort of DIY on Easter, god my neighbours must hate me too hahah

YouveGotAFastCar · 30/03/2024 17:08

Council “guidelines” vary, but it’s 8am where I am - and sawing wouldn’t be loud enough to be covered anyway. It’s considered normal household noise.

I imagine much of the country will be doing DIY over Easter. It’s tradition. I’m sorry that it’s driving you mad. Will earplugs help, even then noise reduction ones rather than total silence ones?
