To say I feel sorry for you if you have tinkerer neighbours

lighthearted

My neighbours are some of life's tinkerers, every Sunday without fail they're out tinkering with their car or their lean to or doing something tinkery odd jobby which, in our terraced row, might as well be in my living room sound and view wise 🤣🤣

Bank Holidays are like this on acid, they've been out since 7, doing something to the shared wall and now their car is up on blocks 🤣🤣 with a radio soundtrack

No aibu really as I'd never dream of saying anything but just to say you have my sympathies if you, too, have a tinkerer neighbour

One of my neighbours is a tinkerer in the garden. He jet washes everything so much I’m amazed it hasn’t eroded away. If it’s not jet washing, it’s banging about, all accompanied by loud music. It does my head in. You can’t sit peacefully in the garden at the weekend because he’ll he be out there hammering something or letting his grandkids hoof balls at the fence.

They sound pretty selfish

I do sometimes wish we had something akin to the continent in this country where you can't make any tinkery noise (DIY, lawnmowing, car repairs) after a certain time on a Sunday/ Bank Holiday. But alas.

Our neighbours are LOVELY so I feel really bad but he is a tinkerer and it does annoy me as their drive is next to my office and under our bedroom window.

Bank Holidays always require early tinkering. Was woken up this morning. Young kids come out to "help"

Fortunately they don't have a radio as this would finish me off. Most tinkering is car related though so lots of engine revving. DH thinks I'm a miserable sod and should live in a cave by myself.

We used to live next door but one to a tinkerer.

We were never disturbed by it, but it drove the neighbour in the middle of us absolutely bonkers. He'd do all his tinkering in his garage, and it really got her goat that he always had his garage door open!
Our neighbour was this lovely old Irish lady. Full of chat and noise herself, but god, she hated those other neighbours! Him for his tinkering, and the wife because she was one of those very prim and proper softly spoken old dears. Someone the complete personality opposite to our Irish friend!

All three of them are long since dead now, but we were very fond of them all.

I thought we did have that in this country, or are you not in the UK?

We have rules around DIY and loud noise, but not really around lawnmowers or radios.

DysmalRadius · 29/03/2024 13:07

We have lovely neighbours now but used to live near angle-grinding man. God knows what he found to grind every sodding weekend, but there was always something. I truly hated him.

EdithArtois · 29/03/2024 14:58

My neighbour uses a power saw in his garden for hours whenever it is dry. It’s been going on every dry weekend since Covid. My heart just sinks because there is no getting away from the noise. If I want to chill n the sun I basically have to leave my garden and go to the park or something. Selfish twat.

MumofSpud · 29/03/2024 15:22

I have a tinkerer neighbour- I call him Mr Inside Out as his driveway has become a complete extension of the inside of his house!

NeedtostopusingMNsomuch · 29/03/2024 15:29

Yes! Ours were jet washers / garage tidiers / car cleaners / general fixers of anything that made them look very busy. Constant faff. No loud music though thank god

Vistada · 29/03/2024 15:32

The jet washer has been out since 11 and is still going, cars, paving, the lot 🫠🫠🫠

My neighbour thinks everything can be fixed with a hammer 🔨

Also does not start using aforementioned hammer till late afternoon.

We have a lovely couple living next door who have been doing up their house since they moved in (it did need it to be fair). We've had our fair share of drilling, banging and crashing, especially at weekends when they've obviously got time to do things. It wasn't so bad when we were out working all day, but now that we've retired and we're around the house more it is really noticeable.

Hopefully they've nearly finished and things will quieten down. As I say, they are absolutely lovely, it's just that drilling at 8.00am on a Saturday or Sunday morning is a bit much sometimes.

GasPanic · 29/03/2024 16:11

This is reminding me I need to get the jetwasher back.
