I went into a mortgage with my cousin 5 years ago we both agreed it would be 50/50 (deposit/repayments) and she would live there on her own but the past year she has moved in her boyfriend who she is now pregnant with n her mum who are both paying her rent I have mentioned that I think the rent she is receiving should come off both our mortgage repayments but the 3 of them have said no I feel like a paying for a house that I couldn’t even live in if I wanted to cause there is no room surely it shouldn’t be costing me for people to live in my house

If you own 50% of the house then you are entitled to 50% of the "rent".
What you do with that (keep or pay mortgage) is up to you.

No matter now what the 3 of them say, it's time for some legal agreements in writing regarding rental, or they buy you out.

Protect yourself and your money - you could end up completely shafted here.

Fuck that. You need to force a sale of the property.

JacquesHarlow · 27/03/2024 12:45

Force a sale @Fifi202288

PickledPurplePickle · 27/03/2024 12:45

No way

You are entitled to 50% of the rent and to vet people who live in your house - it's not just up to your cousin

I would be selling up

Mazuslongtoenail · 27/03/2024 12:46

Absolutely force the sale. What massive CFs.

Beenaboutabit · 27/03/2024 12:49

For tax purposes, you are liable to pay tax after allowances (e.g. rent a room scheme) on half of the rent. That is true even if your cousin keeps all the rent.
