AIBU to think that we need a new button?

Fairly recently, 'thanks' was added to give us the opportunity to show appreciation for a post, which is great. But I think we also need another button, and I'd like your thoughts on what to call it. It's for those posters who, when a thread is going along nicely, with people trying to be helpful, can't resist posting something negative, critical, or simply extremely rude!

Why do so many people think it's appropriate to cause an unhappy person more distress? Or a worried person more anxiety? Or an unconfident person more doubts? Why? Why do it? (If you can't say something nice......)

So, what shall we call the button? Your starter for ten:
no, no, no!
unkind!
enough!

Thanks for reading 😊

No I think people should type it out as it gives them a chance to reflect upon what they are writing and more accountability

Terrible idea imo. If someone is breaking talk guidelines, they can be reported and their messages deleted. This button you're proposing would be used to shout down opposing views that the majority don't want to hear, without any actual debate on the matter.

I'm about to fail on two counts but what would be the point though? I have notifications turned off so I don't notice if I get thanks (unless I go back to the actual post) or get quoted or @.

Imagine this button had already been implemented and the responses you are getting explaining why people think it’s a bad idea were just increments in an “unthanks” counter instead.

It'd just be a more elaborate version of up and down arrows a la Reddit, wouldn't it? Especially if it was public rather than private, as the thanks button is. I'd also stay well away from "unkind" as an option - we see all the time how the pressure to Be Kind is applied to women.

I always say we need a "love" button for pet pictures and the like!
