What would your budget be for this air BnB break?

3 nights in a nice country/rural cottage or farmhouse. 6 adults and 2 dogs. Celebrating a life milestone. All professionals.

My budget wildly contrasts that of the other person looking.

OP please share the details of the air b n b. I love looking at things like this.

NeedToChangeName · 26/03/2024 13:31

That's £66 per person per night. Seems reasonable for quality accommodation, but I'm sure cheaper options are available, and it's really frustrating to be railroaded into spending more than you're comfortable with. Perhaps ask them to make other suggestions

Wendysfriend · 26/03/2024 13:32

So it's 1200 for 3 nights between 6 so 200 per person for 3 nights ? Just over 66 quid a night ? That's an amazing price

Madcats · 26/03/2024 13:38

We tend to regard £200-£250 night per bedroom as acceptable for something well presented with a decent kitchen.

Are the rooms all equally well presented/similar size/ensuite? Can you give that couple(?) the smaller room and charge them less?

We've been known to fib about cost if it means we can go somewhere nicer than something a bit cheaper.

heldinadream · 26/03/2024 13:56

That's a total bargain. If you've already got some mild complaining about the price I would be very cautious OP, you could be in for trouble and arguments.
Show us the place!

Imicola · 26/03/2024 14:17

Is that cost per night, or in total? Assuming sharing of rooms (so 3 bedrooms rather than 6), I would expect to pay about £60 per night per person. So £360 per night, and just over £1,000 all together.

£1200 would be fine if that is the total, very expensive if that is the cost per night!

Slushynana · 26/03/2024 14:30

I’ve just booked 2 cottages together for a special event on vrbo with a private swimming pool in April for about £1600.

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 26/03/2024 14:32

For all of you that’s a great price.

You couldn’t stay near where I live for anywhere near that price!

StonwEd · 26/03/2024 14:34

We are going away this Easter to an Airbnb and I budgeted 250 pp in total for 3 nights. Easily came in under that, so in your situation that would be 1500 which I’d expect to get somewhere lovely for that.
If things were tight I’d think 150pp so 900 in total for yours but don’t think there would be much in that bracket

Nw22 · 26/03/2024 14:37

Most nice cottages worthy of a big occasion woudl be 2000-3000 for a weekend

Zephyry · 26/03/2024 14:39

Approx £450 per couple, total cost £1400 ish

ConJob · 26/03/2024 14:53

It depends on whose milestone it is. Mine, about £250, someone else's about £150 per room.

soupfiend · 26/03/2024 14:55

I tend to look for properties that are up to 100 quid a night, where possible but sometimes the location doesnt have anything that price. Between 2 of us, thats 50 quid each per night

Yours works out to around 70 quid per person, per night, a good deal in my eyes.

KreedKafer · 26/03/2024 15:23

My friends and I (five adults) rented a very nice 5-bed house in a historic village a while ago for two nights, and we paid £120 each, so in total it would have been £300 a night for the whole house.

It was a very smartly decorated, comfortable and spacious house with three bathrooms, but the house itself wasn't old or characterful - just a very nice modern house that was ideal for five adults to relax in, on the edge of a really lovely village with some nice pubs and cafes. I'm sure if we'd paid a bit more we could have had a more atmospheric property or somewhere with a hot tub and gorgeous outdoor space but some people in the group were on tighter budgets than others and we just wanted a relaxing, comfortable base.

So I’ve found a GORGEOUS farmhouse for £1200. Pinterest worthy. It’s discounted.

But apparently it’s a bit dearer than this other person was expecting.

That sounds like a good price for somewhere a bit special and I'd be delighted if someone suggested that to me!

However, I suppose the fact that it's good value doesn't really help if your friend just genuinely doesn't have that kind of money to spend.

Basically, what I'm wondering is whether she actually is quite skint and needs to save money, or whether she's just a bit tight.

mondaytosunday · 26/03/2024 15:36

Im staying at a four bed luxury house with private pool and it's costing us under £200/each for three nights. Two people per room. Food/drink extra of course

wishingchair1 · 26/03/2024 16:41

#Hoiz I'd be interested to see it if you could DM me

Thanks

kitsuneghost · 26/03/2024 16:43

1.5K total I would say

If you’re sharing the cost with someone else it doesn’t really matter what a thousand people on the Internet think. If they have a budget, that’s the one that’s relevant.

It’s a shame when you aren’t on the same page as someone you’re going away with, but the compromise almost always needs to go in the direction of the lower budget. It’s not reasonable to make some one shell out more than they’re comfortable with.

This is very true. I suppose though, the other person needs to think about how realistic they are about cost per night of accommodation. AS others have more accurately than me worked out the cost, its 66 quid per night, where on earth would the friend find accommodation for that cost outside of a travelodge?

The other party may have more flexibility and just not have realised what the sort of place they have all been imagining costs nowadays, it’s always worth checking in and giving them time to come to terms with the options. But as a few PP have pointed out, you can get significantly cheaper places on airbnb, they just aren’t as lux or characterful or in as good a location. They may not value character or lux or location over having more money in their pocket (or less debt on a credit card, etc.).

hby9628 · 26/03/2024 17:55

Depends where you are and time of year we have booked 3 nights in Scotland in august which is coming in at £1800. That's for 9 of us though

Dishwashersaurous · 26/03/2024 17:58

About £2500

InfoComet · 26/03/2024 18:04

I think time of year and location is key. We've had two separate week long holidays in very nice places each with 3 double bedrooms / 2 bathrooms for £900 but that's been out of season. Weekends can be as expensive as a week so I'd expect somewhere around that amount if outside of school holidays.

Hoiz · 26/03/2024 18:06

PeanutCat1 · 26/03/2024 12:28

Also I guess it really depends on if it's singles or couples etc are people happy to share rooms?

There are 2 kings, 1 double and a twin.

In this group we usually just draw out of a hat.
