I'm 4 weeks PP, c-section delivery. Everything's been fine up until today, very sore on one side of wound, it's weeping and smells foul (sorry TMI), and is very angry red.

Rang triage who said they will try and get a community MW out to me tomorrow. However, it's very painful and when I move/walk I genuinely feel like it's going to come open. I know that sounds dramatic but it's the only way I can explain.

Shouldn't this be checked out sooner? I have no fever and I feel generally well other than this.

Btw…if you haven’t already discovered this - hair dryer in a low heat setting is great for drying caesarean wounds after baths and showers.

MultiplaLight · 26/03/2024 08:17

Don't use the hairdryer, it blows dirt into the wound!

I hope you have been seen OP and had some antibiotics.

the wind has a foul smell, which indicates its infected - not a good ideas to blow a hairdryer on to the wound

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. I'm currently trying to get through to my GP to make an appointment.

I know maternity said they would send a community MW out, but suspect they will just send me to the GP anyway for antibiotics

I don't want to alarm you but our daughter had this happen when she had a c section. She was taken back to hospital where they had to open her up and redo everything. She ended up staying in for over a week as she had a very bad infection.
This time when she was pregnant they arranged beforehand that she would be having a dressing that had a little gadget attached that would help her heal, they also monitored her much more closely.

That sounds really painful. I really hope you get it sorted soon.

MultiplaLight · 27/03/2024 10:00

How are you @imablue ?

imablue · 22/04/2024 22:18

Just coming back to this thread.. I had a nasty infection that took 2 lots of antibiotics to clear! Also had to have a steroid cream and only in the past week or so has it started to finally look and feel better.

Glad you're on the mend Flowers

Really lovely to hear you are on the mend!

Gad you’re feeling better and that you waited till the morning.
Not all infections lead to sepsis and the OP stated she didn’t feel unwell. The right course of action was waiting to speak to the GP in the morning.
