I’m assuming yes, so where do you hide your shit?

Fixtures & fittings, yes. Freestanding furniture, no. If it is staying, expect it to be looked in.

As PPs have already said we used to hide stuff in the car. 😀

Estate agent to me said people will look in built in cupboards just make sure it's not so full it all falls out on top of them 😂

We actually viewed a house where the vendor showed us round and opened the top of her built in wardrobes only for a pile of handbags to come tumbling out 😂

Opening built in cupboards and having a surreptitious sniff is good for finding raging damp problems, especially in old houses.

Yes absolutely look in built in cupboards and wardrobes.

I know someone who bought a house thinking it had a double wardrobe and found the hotwater cylinder took up half the wardrobe.

Only cupboards that are built into the house so being bought with it, they can't just start going through your freestanding wardrobe and drawers

I must be unusual then, I think that's generally really rude, unless the kitchen, and even then, you should ask first.

Oh, come on. You’re considering buying the place. You ‘asked permission’ by arranging a viewing.

And I wouldn’t stick to the kitchen because mould, damp and ancient hot water cylinders are not only found in kitchens.

My last viewing I lifted up the bathmats. Lo and behold they were hiding the fact all the bathroom tiles were broken. Try to tidy everything and anything because people like to nose

Agree. I would never look in people’s cupboards unless I had their permission 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes I look in kitchen cabinets to see if they are chipboard or solid wood and to assess if they need to be replaced straight away. Sometimes the doors can hold up well but the insides are trashed.

I put masses of stuff in my car when selling and drive up the road during viewings.
