I didn't put a plaster on until an hour ago as thought it best to let it breathe

No it's not infected
Although if its not been cleaned or covered it could become infected.
But it just looks like a normal blister

BellaAndDave · 24/03/2024 23:56

I’d try and leave that uncovered to dry out tbh but I’m not a medical professional. Blisters from shoes are a buggar and I normally put a breathable dressing on them. Some waterproof plasters make blisters go like the one in your photo.

KreedKafer · 24/03/2024 23:56

No, it’s just a blister. Doesn’t look infected at all.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 24/03/2024 23:58

Doesn’t look infected. The Compeed blister plasters are great for healing and they create a nice cushion over the sore bit too.

Hmm unsure this is it now two days later and its hot and painful

Now it does look infected and there is pus by the looks of it. Clean it with salt water or antiseptic and put a dry dressing over to keep it clean and cushion it.

If the redness/swelling gets bigger then phone 111.

Sagittarius · 26/03/2024 14:40

Forget a normal plaster and get one of those compeed ones, they work wonders for deep blisters. Clean it with some antiseptic cream and then put the compeed plaster on, it will form a protective layer over the blister and keep it clean.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 26/03/2024 14:41

Yes, definitely infected, it should clear up if you do as pp says. You'll have an amazing scab once all the pus has dried up.

heartbrokenof · 26/03/2024 15:25

I've been cleaning with antiseptic spray twice a day but will get a compeed plaster!

For Christ sake if this isn't what a GP.surgery is for what the hell is the point? Surely this is exactly what GPs are there for, to deal with minor infections and day to day ailments?

Have you tried to get a gp appointment lately 🤣

I wouldn't bother the GP with a minor issue like this. If the foot swells up or the infection tracks up the leg, that's when I'd be getting it looked at.

OP, I'd soak that whole foot a few times a day in clean warm water with salt added. By all means spray the wound with antiseptic after it's dried up, but try to leave it open to the air as much as you can. I might cover it while you're in bed to avoid it getting caught in fibres etc.

Don't cover it with compeed now there's an active infection, you'll just close the infection in which is a bad idea.

Whitegrenache · 27/03/2024 14:37

I work with in woundcare. Give that a good clean with water dry the area and stick a hydrocolloid dressing on. Compeed will do.
Absolutely no need to see a doctor

crackfoxy · 27/03/2024 15:06

Comped plaster and leave on until it falls off. Its fine
