To really revel in small joys?

This is a gratitude thread, to counteract all the doom and gloom and depressing news stories. My small joys are as follows

Spring Flowers, daffs in particular
That beautiful grey blue shade that the sky turns after it has been raining
My wood fire, bliss
Cats
Easter eggs
Superga trainers: the most stylish and comfortable
Netflix
Cracking open a really satisfying novel, especially a crime novel
Fresh bedlinen
Home baking
The smell of coffee brewing
Anticipation of summer holidays
Nail polish
Making a really good playlist (I am very very good at that, my playlists are always highly in demand at parties)
Real tea, made with leaves not bags, in a teapot
Spicy pasta
Coffee eclairs
Good perfume
Long walks in the park
Bay windows with stained glass
Cashmere jumpers in pastel colours

I completely agree. I wasn't aware of the stat that optimists live longer, but it makes sense, when you think about it. If you are always down and miserable, that wears out the body as well as the spirit.

https://www.livescience.com/58-study-optimists-live-longer.html

“Optimistic participants had a 55 percent lower risk of death from all causes and 23 percent lower risk of death from heart failure”.

Study: Optimists Live Longer

A sunny disposition leads to lower death rates, a new study finds.

Starting the drive to work with the perfect song
Sunglasses in freezing cold weather
Nailing the drumbeat on a new song
Taking a photograph you know is going to look amazing
Finishing my make up when it looks really good
Black coffee in my favourite cup

Mrspatmoresspoon · 22/03/2024 19:52

Coffee with a good friend that you see eye to eye with

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 22/03/2024 19:53

Hearing the birds
Watching the birds on my feeder
Lighting a candle
A glass of nice red wine in the bath ( what I'm doing right now )
Watching a film in bed with ds
Going for a cold water dip
Blowy days for my washing
Completing another little bit of my cross stitch
Flowers in the house
Watching the daffodils dance in the wind

I'm sure there is alot more 😊

SadAct342 · 22/03/2024 19:55

What a Beautiful thread! Love this ❤️

laloue · 22/03/2024 19:56

The owls giving it some twit and twoo right outside my window for the last few nights. I wish I could open the curtains and see a ginormous pair of eyes looking back 😊

Lazypeopledrivemecrazy · 22/03/2024 19:57

The way my Great Grandson runs to me and throws his arms around me when he sees me.

Blossom on the trees
The way the earth smells after rain
A cuddle from my DH
Starting a new book that you just KNOW is going to be a page turner.

So many wonderful things when you take the time to stop and think about them.

PointerParty · 22/03/2024 19:57

Yes!

The smell of spring
Freshly made coffee
Open, blue sky
Birdsong
Watching something I've planted sprout new leaves
Silent streets at 6am on the weekend
Falling asleep after a night shift
Tea and biscuits after a dog walk
The moment you sink into a hot bath

I went through a rough period health wise, I was in heart failure for a while and couldn't get out of bed for weeks. Just standing up and making myself a cup of tea was completely magical. I try to remind myself of that when I've lost a bit of perspective

Cuppachuchu · 22/03/2024 19:57

A good book, warm socks and a mug of tea.
Also, raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. 🐱😺🐱 (sorry!)

professionalnomad · 22/03/2024 19:58

Finally sitting down at the end of the day with Below Deck and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps knowing I have a couple of hours of peace before the baby or my toddler wake up for the night time shenanigans

Lemoncokezero · 22/03/2024 20:01

Cats, especially mine but I do love to see one on the street. It's like an unexpected bonus cat!

Coffee in the morning.

My heat pad for my adenomyosis. Obviously I'd rather not have the pain. But I do love the warmth of it.

Purplebunnie · 22/03/2024 20:02

What a wonderful thread, so many things others have said that also bring me joy and I add my granddaughter giving me a hug and the shrub in our garden that has the most wonderful perfume.

Moonshine5 · 22/03/2024 20:03

Flat white at Foggs watching the world.

AmaryllisChorus · 22/03/2024 20:05

Babies! I swear I get a rush of oxytocin every time I see one. They are so cute and round and wise looking. And I love the way their legs and arms just jiggle randomly.

Lemoncokezero · 22/03/2024 20:05

Also I'm child free by choice but a very involved aunty. (my sister is a single mum) the absolute joy form my spending time with my nieces is amazing. The stuff they say and do, our closeness, just everything about them. So absolutely have joy in the simple things with them.

Baaaaaa · 22/03/2024 20:07

What a lovely thread.

The smell of my dogs ears
The promise of spring
Decluttering
Wild birds
My nephew's funny grammar mistakes
A great audiobook
The perfect cup of tea
Freshly washed and dried hair
Wandering round independent shops
Walking the dogs on firm ground
A Sunday roast with the people I love

Helpimfalling · 22/03/2024 20:07

Exasperateddonut · 22/03/2024 20:10

The smell of hyacinths.
the smell of warm spring air
how happy the birds sound
a bunch of daffodils
fresh bread
the clunk of my car door shutting. It’s ridiculously satisfying and I always feel happy when it does it

grafittiartist · 22/03/2024 20:10

My favourite wine on special offer
Stepping out into a crisp breeze when feverish- felt so good!

UtterlyOtterly · 22/03/2024 20:11

Hearing my little neighbour ride his scooter up and down the pavement after school today. It was sunny and warm, he sounded very happy.

Seeing the two collared doves who snuggle up to each other on our fence. They are deeply and uncomplicatedly in love.

Knowing there is a new tub of chocolate ice cream in the freezer.

Having plans to do nice things with friends.

Birdsong and spring flowers. It will soon be time for a bluebell walk.

terrywynne · 22/03/2024 20:12

Most of what’s already been said and…

When the uniform, showers, school bag etc is done on a sun night!

Watching the office, only fools & horses or Benidorm

Spraying La Vie EST Belle on IN THE WEEK! - usually only allow myself to use it when I go out (at £100 per bottle!)

Giving my dog a big cuddle

Spring/summer/just less rain round the corner

Knowing I have a meal/drinks with my friends to look forward to

Finding a bargain on Vinted that would otherwise cost me a bomb - knowing I can look nice for cheap🤣

Sat night tea - ready meal that has NO washing up!

Drinking Prosecco in the garden on a sunny night

most of all, I’m so happy & grateful
i am fit & healthy enough to just live my life, however boring - park, shopping, pottering, gardening, just being able to go out. Lots can’t.

Edited to add…

Spending time with my DD🤣 forgot about that!

LastRites · 22/03/2024 20:15

The beautiful, old magnolia in our garden
The smell of jasmine in summer
Opening a great bottle of wine
Fresh coffee
A long walk followed by a cold pint
Chatting with my children and hearing all their gossip
Watching the birds in our garden
Early mornings when no one else is up

I have so many more!
