How do you make yourself feel better when you are poorly?

May sound like a silly question but I’m fed up of the germs in recent months, currently not feeling very good and also feeling sorry for myself, just want to feel better! How does everyone help themselves feel better when they are under the weather ?

Try to be in a routine as much as you can with eating well and regularly, drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and 'junk' food, exercise, fresh air, and sleep. Also proper handwashing and masking in public transport and crowded indoor places.

Chicken soup with proper bakery bread.

Freshly washed dressing gown, pyjamas, slippers & woolly socks - all warmed on the heater before putting them on.

A hairband and bun - all hair scrapped off my face, neck etc.

Spotify set to spa relaxation type music.

If that doesn't work, loads of hot whiskey or hot port to sweat all the bad germs out of me.

Rum and neat blackcurrant.

Egg and chips
Strong cup of tea
Keep warm

Good food with plenty of fruit and veg. (made by someone else!) Lot’s of liquids (except alcohol!). Keep warm and get plenty of rest and sleep (if possible - I often sleep badly when sick, though).

Agree with ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees that things like clean night clothes (and sheets) also good. And when I’ve been sick for a while, a shower makes me feel a lot more human.

The other thing I find helps is when I do have to get up and do things, I avoid the shuffling dressing gown of doom approach. Walk with purpose as much as possible. Focus on doing what I can with the energy I can muster. Try not to feel sorry for myself. Then retire to bed/sofa with a cup of tea and some fruit for a nap/TV binge. Basically bursts of energy in between resting rather than protracted, slow attempts at getting things done.

Hot drink of lemon, ginger and a blob of honey.

I find the best thing is to completely give myself over to it for a whole weekend Friday night to Sunday night, take to my bed, plenty of Lemsip etc, maybe a couple of short walks to blow the cobwebs but no shopping or socialising.

That usually gives me a good boost so that even though i'm unlikely to be totally back on form by Monday, I've filled my reserves up somewhat and will turn the corner.
