Has anyone gone to turkey and had their teeth done?

Aibu to say that it's a waste of money and it's best to do it in the uk?

My sister wants to fly and spend 4k on her teeth but needs to get 5 taken out, will they still do it for her?

Anyone had any first hand experiences, if so where did you get it done! Any pictures? Trying to do as much research for my sister as possible

No me personally but know a woman who has. She massively regrets it. They tend to not do veneers in Turkey they do crowns, so shave your natural teeth down.

Turkey teeth look absolutely horrendous I’m sorry. They damage your natural teeth and are prone to gum disease and other issues.

Id tell your sister to save up and get a UK dentist to do some composite bonding.

I have veneers and I love them, I had them done overseas and they were much more affordable the cost in the UK for equivalent would have been upwards of 30k.

So far I've had no problems with them but I don't bite with my front teeth (cut everything up, even apple etc or pizza) as I'd be pretty upset if I damaged my expensive teeth.

They look the absolutely great they aren't ultra white or tacky in any way.

You need to keep them very very clean and make sure to floss gently every day. I had a gingivectomy at the same time as mine. I've had them a few years and so far no problems but she should be aware they are only supposed to last for ten years or so then you usually need to start thinking about having them replaced.

I never used to smile but I smile all the time now!

It’s honestly not worth it - most of the people with Turkey teeth won’t have any left in 10-15 years time. I vividly remember Katie Price’s Turkey crowns falling out on a live social media story. As someone who also suffers from dental issues, I know it’s very tempting but it’s incredibly destructive and irreversible what they do to the teeth. There are other countries that still do the teeth cheaper than the UK but are a lot more credible and safer than Turkey if having the teeth done here really isn’t an option.

Thank you for your reply.

She has a fair few cavities, some teeth are missing at the back but still has the root. Can they still do the ones that are there? Will the refuse her?

I have veneers . They have stains where my own tooth joins the veneer. Tooth whiteners doesn’t work…

RobertaFirmino · 21/03/2024 23:51

Might it be more cost effective to go for implants?

My teeth!

These look lovely , so happy to hear they have made you more confident and smiley. Keith Duffy from Boyton did a documentary on Turkey teeth and the conclusion was that there are good and bad clinics over there. The good ones will do a great job but the bad ones can be horrendous. I remember a lady on this morning was in absolute agony since she got hers done there. Her teeth were so sensitive it made her cry and she regretted it majorly
She said that no dentist at home would help her to fix them as the damage was so bad. She was lucky that the dentist on the show agreed to help her. So if your sister does decide to go ahead make sure she does her research or she could be in a lot of trouble if it goes wrong.

I did go for subtle ones, I actually went to female dentist in turkey who I was sure would understand what I wanted and not just go crazy or try to give me ultra white fake looking ones.

With the teeth at the back, it is always crowns as veneers don't stand up well to bite pressure. They can fix fillings and imperfect or damaged teeth at the back as well, I had a few fillings done at the same time (one my NHS dentist insisted was fine at multiple trips but was causing me a lot of pain and it turned out I had an enormous cavity on x-ray!)

If she's missing front teeth there are things the dentist can do as well, some involves multiple trips though like having a post put in then when it settles they later attach the fake tooth to it. A good friend of mine has this as she lost her front teeth in an accident and it wrecked her confidence. I couldn't tell at all until she told me, so they can match to your current teeth very well if that's what you want. You need to just be sure to find a more.natiral dentist, a lot have Instagram pages now with some incredible before and afters. They will have seen much worse than your sister. My dentist showed me privately in her folders some people who had almost no teeth at all and the before and afters were really impressive! Just do lots of research on the place and make sure that your sister knows what she's getting into. I'd never suggest somebody with healthy teeth get veneers if a brace, whitening and deep clean etc would do it. It is still not a conservative treatment.

I grew up very poor and didn't have much access to dental care, so getting them fixed was an enormous thing for me and I do truly feel so happy to be able to smile now. I actually don't have a before picture because I literally never smiled as I hated my teeth. So it's been a huge quality of life improvement in that way.

@Anotherparkingthread

Thank you for sharing, what was the company's name? I will research as much as I can

You do know that veneers are very thin covers that are bonded onto the surface of your own teeth. There is minimal prep required. A bit like a false nail...
Honestly some of the cases I've seen in work, not to mention the videos I've seen of Turkey teeth, the teeth are cut down to within an inch of their life. Hugely concerning, so much more damaging as close to nerve. Much more likely to need further work such as root canal treatment required afterwards.

It's actually scary that someone one would willingly agree to this.
