Neighbour erecting scaffolding on our property

Have come home to find the neighbour has had scaffolding erected which partially covers our house including around the front door. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable in thinking we should at least have been given a heads up?

I assume the scaffolding is necessary to repair missing roof tiles that fell off during recent storms but I don’t see why the scaffolding needs to be so big as to also partially cover my house. I’m a little worried it’ll will damage my walls

Has the neighbour definitely seen it? I had scaffolding put up last week when I was out and it was way bigger than I expected so might be that the neighbour didn’t know what it would look like. Scaffolding tends to get subcontracted so there’s always scope for comms fails.

God no way I would put up with that. They need to come back and sort it out

CrispEater2000 · 21/03/2024 18:46

Is it on your land or does it overhang? If it's on your land they 100% need permission for that.

Have a shimmy up and poke your head in one of their windows

They'll soon get the hint

PlumbersWifey · 21/03/2024 19:09

They need to get that taken down.

Springbokbounce · 21/03/2024 19:32

Yeah, I guess it’s possible they didn’t know. I think I still would’ve given a heads up though just to say I was getting work done. It is on our land not just overhanging. My main issue is it looks like our stones have been scratched and I don’t like having to go under the scaffolding to get in the house.

I would assume that my neighbours didn’t know the scaffolding was going to be on my property as well if this was me. We get on with our neighbours so I’d be inclined not to say anything. But I’d make a note of the scaffolding company in case of damage and would take photos of the scaffolding whilst it is up etc . Just in case.

You offer to rent them the ground it stands on @ a fiver a day..... And no joking..

You need to speak with your neighbour. Basically they have no right to erect this on your land but importantly you have limited rights to claim damages from the contractor as you are not the one who commissioned the work.
So you need to have an agreement from your neighbour in writing that he will "make good" any damage and then he in turn can enforce this on the contractor.
