SIL is getting married and DS1 aged 3 is pageboy. We have been asked to pay for the outfit. Is this normal ? Just dont know. When we got married I paid for my neices and nephews outfits.

stealthsquiggle I think that is a good plan. Just looked and there are loads of great suits on ebay so I will suggest she sorts the wasitcoat so he 'matches' the ushers and I get a cheap suit off ebay ! I dont think he is expected to do any duties, just look cute for the photos ! TBH I am not looking forward to it - 2 boys aged 3 and under to man mark and no help from DH as he is on 'family' duty. GREAT !

Matching reins?

lollipopmother · 27/03/2008 16:59

Sorry haven't read any of the thread other than OP, but yes people do ask for the outfits to be bought for them, and no I wouldn't stand for it! What a complete joke, if she wants your DS as pageboy she should ruddy pay for any outfit she wants him in, that would really get my goat!

perpetualworrier · 27/03/2008 17:07

Please don't let you're litte boy wear a man's suit. He'll look ridiculous and uncomfortable. Agree with Stealth - could he have a matching waistcost and dark trousers , from a school uniform range, for example.

stealthsquiggle · 27/03/2008 17:09

I don't neccesarily agree, PW - DS looked adorable in tails aged 3 - I will try and find a photo to post...

didoreth · 27/03/2008 17:10

My daughter was a bridesmaid twice, each time the bride chose and paid for her outfit. Unless you can easily spare the cash and want to help with the wedding costs, don't see why anyone should be expected to pay for clothes they haven't chosen/can't wear again.

perpetualworrier · 27/03/2008 17:11

OK - just me then I never did have any sense of style. A waistcoat and school type trousers would be a cheaper option though and not out of keeping, as a lot of the bridal mags etc have little boys in waistcoats without a jacket.

stealthsquiggle · 27/03/2008 17:15

photo on my profile now - but if you can't find a nice suit at a bearable price then I do absolutely agree that if you get him trousers and shirt and SIL gets a waistcoat then he will "match" closely enough for the photos.

perpetualworrier · 27/03/2008 17:19

Oh that is cute Stealth - but he'd be much quicker without the jacket

stealthsquiggle · 27/03/2008 17:22

Ah, but he wouldn't have looked "just like Daddy" and behaved like an angel all day because of his "special clothes"

DD is being a bridesmaid for my sister's wedding at the beginning of April. Her dress has been made and is being paid for by my sister.

I have bought her shoes, but as they cost £7 I don't feel this has broken the bank. She will also definitely wear them again.

DS isn't being a pageboy, but DSis suggested he might like to wear a suit like her DF and other men in the party, but I knew he wouldn't want to so politley declined . I am pretty sure we wouldn't have had to had paid for it though.

He is going to be wearing a linen suit from M&S (trousers with matching waistcoat and a white shirt) which I did pay for and was happy about.

mousemole · 27/03/2008 17:52

Stealth - great picture, he looks fab ! given its an august wedding I think the three piece suit might be a bit of an overkill. As suggested, the nice trousers/shirt and waistcoat idea sounds good. Matching reins sound FAB, where do I get those ?!

I was faced with EXACTLY the same predicament last year....if someone wants your son to be pageboy then of course, good manners dictate that they should pay. I had a word with my brother (as did my mother) and he completely agreed once we had expalined that actually, for us to buy a suit (it was over £100) for something he would only the once was really unreasonable. "Bridezella" said that I was out of order blah blah blah and my retort was that if she was prepared for me to choose then I had no problem. In the end, we got a lovely linen 3 piece in Monsoon and despite him not being in "tops and tails" he wore to literally every party last year!!!! Incidentally, she has recently said waht a cow she was about the whole thing and apologised!! You definately need to express your opinions......good luck!

mumeeee · 27/03/2008 18:32

The ones getting married.

mousemole · 27/03/2008 19:02

dozymare - sorry to hear yopu had the same problem. Thanks for the tips. Bridezillas are a force to be reckoned with ! Sure I was one too, memory has just faded over the years.
