to ask about meds after IV sedation at the dentist

Apologies, shamelessly exploiting AIBU for traffic as I could really use advice asap from anyone in the know.

IV sedation today (late morning) for a dental implant procedure. I was so spaced out afterwards that I forgot to ask the dentist if it was OK to take my usual evening meds, namely amitriptyline and melatonin. Obviously, both make me sleepy, especially as the amitriptyline is a high-ish dose. There's nothing in the paperwork I've been sent home with to suggest I shouldn't - I'm just not sure given the drowsy-making potential of the meds.

I don't feel spaced out from the sedation at all now so many hours have passed, but I gather it can take up to 24 hrs for the sedative to leave the body entirely, so I was just wondering does anyone know if it's generally considered OK to take drowsiness-inducing meds like these on the same day as the sedation, or would it be safer to leave it for tonight?? I've tried googling but it keeps bringing up things like academic studies rather than just advice.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

I would assume its safe as they generally ask you what meds you take before they give sedation; but can you ring 111?

I had the same with my implant. Very likely you will not need your meds tonight & will sleep like a log. I had the best nights sleep EVER. 🙂

Good idea, I might do that. The dentist did go over my meds with me before the procedure and didn't raise any concerns, I'm just wanting to err on the side of caution. (@Skippydoodle tbf I do feel so wiped out that I'm wondering if I'm even going to need them! 😄)

If you feel wiped out then skip them - you might want to get up for a wee in the night!
Make sure you drink plenty of liquids and get a good nights rest.

Good point re wee - especially as our ensuite has two steps down into it! 😄DH will be with me but he'll be out like a light once he's asleep... think I'm starting to lean towards playing it safe and skipping them!
