To expect to be paid for what I worked (nhs)

MessyNeate · 19/03/2024 01:01

EVERY single month my pay has been wrong since last summer, I'm not being paid for OT I've done or my usual rota's shifts

I've been to managers
I've spoke to payroll
I've spoken to the rota people
I've been higher up
I've been to union

I am STILL no closer to it being sorted

I know nhs payslips are notorious for being difficult to understand but since all this mess I keep a note of what I work. What hours and enhancements I'm owed and every single month, it's wrong, not even by a few quid, it's a few hundred.

I don't know what to do!

Go to your union rep

PickledPurplePickle · 19/03/2024 05:23

What have all these people said when you have raised it

Do they agree that it is wrong?

Calamitousness · 19/03/2024 05:23

If you’re genuinely not being paid correctly and your line manager agrees and won’t sort it then raise a grievance via HR.
It’s easy fixed. Your shifts need to be entered exactly as worked onto online system and then pay is automatically correct. There’s no magic. Your line manager is responsible for your shifts being entered correctly.

Responding to myself here, just re-read and you already have seen union. Pls ignore me!
I'm sorry, but the nhs is woeful at payroll. Just take yourself to accounts dept and demand to see the management accountant for your department

We used to have a complex way of filling in pay slips. So many people didn't get paid. Can you show your payslip to someone before submitting it, to ensure it's filled in correctly?

TigBitss · 19/03/2024 08:14

Do they agree its wrong? Seems really odd that they can't do their jobs properly at all levels!

Emmacb82 · 19/03/2024 09:17

When people at our trust had pay issues and no one would resolve them, they went straight to the chief executive and they were sorted out pretty much straight away.

That's what I have had to do and have finally been paid for work Feb 2023!

It’s not up to the management accountant. They won’t have access to make adjustments to what the OP has been paid. The line manager needs to ensure the e-roster is correct then it’s up to payroll. I would expect the line manager to chase up with senior payroll staff on OP’s behalf.

Small claims court?

Soupsetanddefeated · 19/03/2024 09:30

Agree with the above, if your shifts are not correct on your roster system you won't be paid. Line manager is your first portion of call, then payroll and probably SBS as most Trusts outsource their pay to them.

Things to look at - are your shifts being added to the roster BEFORE they are worked? f yes, are they being authorised by your line manager (or roster manager not always the same person) are they being authorised by the monthly cut off, usually around the 5th of the month.

If all of those are yes, it becomes a payroll issue.

Also, whilst there are issues with payroll it would be unusual for it to be this significant. Are you sure your calculations are correct? Taking into consideration tax, NI, parking deductions and pension contributions etc?

mumda · 19/03/2024 09:32

How much does the payroll system cost?

KrushedIvy · 19/03/2024 09:35

Raise a grievance

MessyNeate · 19/03/2024 11:44

Shifts are entered correct and are now put on before I work them I told management if my shifts aren't put on before I work then I won't be coming in. Especially for the overtime shifts.

Mostly the issue has been with special rates of overtime not being paid correctly. Union got involved I got an emergency payment. Minus est tax/insurance and some of the basic OT I had been paid. Then in my next payslip my hours were all minus hours and they deducted the measly payment the had sent me as an advance recovery. (1/3 of what I should have been paid)

Lately they haven't been paying me the right amount of night/weekend enhancements. Which I've calculated and raised with management.

Nothing gets resolved.

I'm not the only one. Is frustrating as I have a lot to pay out for in the next few months hence the overtime!

I had a similar problem (also Nhs) after exhausting every avenue, I emailed the hospital chief executive - I received everything I was owed the same day.
