To be tired of constant moaning, pessimism, and people seeing the absolute worst in everything?

Just what the thread title says. This site seems especially bad for it, so perhaps I am just spending too much time on here! People in my real life are not quite such downers as many (not all!) people online seem to be. My favourites are the ones who seem to resent others' happiness and insist that life is terrible and that we should ALL be miserable or there is something wrong with us. How did it get to this point? Is it a peculiarly British phenomenon or is it more global? I am getting to the point where I am catching second hand depression from hearing this constant whinging.

I would worry more if people were not moaning then the buggers really would have ground us down. Moaning etc means we recognise something is wrong, not working, not fair and yes sometimes we forget how lucky we are but it shows we still care

Except when people start threads saying things like 'all men are crap' and 'Britain is going down the drain' and other incredibly depressing things, there is no way they don't think they are moaning and poisoning a well. Whereas asking about tipping culture is far more circumscribed and what's more, I did something about it!

i love it.

cherry picking what you regard as moaning! 😆

lunchanddinner · 18/03/2024 16:28

anyone starting a thread about how fed up they are about something on mumsnet… really needs to set some screen limits on the time they spend on mumsnet!

Allfur · 18/03/2024 16:29

Moaning about one thing is hardly the same as moaning about everything

exactly

the poster starting a thread that the op regards as moaning about “everything”

is moaning about one specific thing

like the op’s thread moaning about tipping culture for example.

I can’t stand being around moaners and pessimists. I have a friend who is very “ glass half empty” and if there is even a hint of a negative about a situation he will grasp it. It’s very very unappealing quality in someone. I also get quite enraged when posters online make sweeping claims for the entire population. Eg “ no one gives a shit about the Royal Family” Fuck off. You do not speak for me or anyone else…. Just apply these opinions to yourself and leave other people out of it. How am I supposed to maintain my sunny, optimistic outlook with all these miseries around? 😊

OMG so true!! No, I won't tolerate pessimists in my life, it is bloody annoying to be around.

You are are not unreasonable at all.
Mumsnet is laden with the most fucking idiotic threads opened by whiners and moaners who should know fucking better.
This could be a very useful forum if these sad bastards stopped posting their shit.

I don’t think MN is reflected in real life. Many people are grumbling, as they always did, but getting on with it. Again, as they always did.

Social media just gives people a place to vent.

oooh just came across the OP on a thread that she was posting on whilst also on this thread…

It is ridiculous and irresponsible, yes. People should have the family they can afford. These people clearly cannot afford five children so they shouldn't have had them

love the juxtaposition of OP’s thread and then the OP’s activity on other threads at same time!

I've come back because I found something on Instagram. It's not you OP, the UK is the second most miserable country.

I'm glad that it's not just me who thinks that! To be clear, I'm not miserable at all myself, I am very contented. Obviously, there are things that could be improved about life, for sure. But I just don't see this awful dystopian world. Perhaps I'm just a 'cockeyed optimist' like in the old song, but I just don't think that things are as bleak as all that.

I told myself I wasn't going to reply to you, but really, your point is too ridiculous. There is nothing 'negative' about saying that people shouldn't have five children unless they can afford them. If anything, realising that life is better when you cut your coat according to your cloth is very positive and realistic.
