DS has been obsessed with this one film for months now. It’s all he talks about! However, said film is impacting his daily life, he genuinely believes he is the protagonist in the film! He refers to himself and his new girlfriend as “Scott and Ramona” …. the relationship seems a bit toxic in the film! His GF said it’s all he’s willing to talk to her about… poor girl 😪To change this, i’ve tried banning the movie in our house…. is this unreasonable?

Could you gently suggest a GP appointment, an obsession this strong is not healthy.

How old is he?

Is he neurodiverse?

Mummame222 · 16/03/2024 22:52

Is he Autistic? You need help regarding his MH. I wouldn’t tale guidance from MN users in this. Please get medical help.

would the book series help speed up the novlety so he gets bored as usually when a ban happens it makes it all the more needed ?

Has he fought any of her exes yet? It sounds like an unhealthy relationship - he would be far better off with the drummer in his band who still loves him anyway.

Writing as someone who can read the same novels and watch the same movies over 100 times and still react as though they are new to me...

Do. Not. Ban. The. Movie.
He will hate you for it.
Forever.

I hate to jump to the suggestion of neurodiversity but it could well be that. I have ADHD and I've hyperfixated on movies before. Having said that, it usually lasts for a few weeks rather than a few months.

In any case, there is obviously an issue here. Banning the movie won't help as it won't be addressing the underlying issue.

As others have said, take your son to the GP.
