Refused entry in a bar as does not have a 25+ -adult to supervise

Ds18 went to a sports bar and grill for some food with his 17 year old GF, checked the entry policy on children which states they are allowed in until 8pm (no mention of being with an adult which ds is)

Ds got ID at the door and they refused them entry as they weren’t with someone over the age of 25 to supervise, he said they were only going in for food… but still refused entry.

Never head anything of the sort.

Im guessing they have had trouble recently with 18-20 year olds. When I worked in pubs it was a common tactic for big groups of kids to split up and come in 1's & 2's then merge back up once inside.

Personally as long as he wasn't discriminated on for the colour of his skin, or a disability or for religious reasons I would just let this one slide and let it go.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 16/03/2024 18:39

It could be a condition of the license

Tagyoureit · 16/03/2024 18:41

Plenty of other places to eat and drink!

TeaKitten · 16/03/2024 18:44

It doesn’t seem unreasonable. They can go somewhere more suitable for their age and the venue can have whatever policies they want to keep to their Licencing conditions.

It’s not, I’ve just had one of the staff private message me to say she can’t understand why he’s been refused and is asking why.

They are currently eating in another pub without fuss.

Seems fair enough. They don't turn away business for no reason.

That other pub may not have had trouble with rowdy teenagers.

Then why are you making a fuss? He’s dealt with it well, he doesn’t need his mummy fixing it for him. Hopefully if it was a mistake theyl let him in next time.

GooseClues · 16/03/2024 18:53

My guess is that they worried he’ll buy alcohol and give some to the underage girlfriend. Would he be refused entry if he was alone or is this “needs someone over 25” role only for under 18s?

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 16/03/2024 18:54

Where am I making a fuss 🙄

im asking why a 17 and 18 year old need an adult to eat food in a bar and grill in which it states children are allowed in until 8pm which is there own policy.

The staff member has messaged me and said they have no such policy and they are going to speak to the door staff who refused him entry.

Ive asked them about any trouble and they’ve said they haven’t had any so might just be an over zealous door staff.

So weird that you're private messaging them about it. If you are so concerned he's treated like an adult then you need to treat him like one too!

TeaKitten · 16/03/2024 18:56

Messaging the bar before he’s even finished his meal asking about it, and making a thread on here to see what others thing. I think you are making a fuss! You wanted opinions, there you go. Anyway it sounds like it’s resolved now.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 16/03/2024 18:58

The staff member private messaged me, not the other way round.

it’s a family friend who I didn’t even know worked there.

You’re just making stuff up now, he didn’t even get through the door to even have a meal.

Ive started a thread on here to gauge peoples opinions ,not for someone to come along and make BS up!

Edited

You literally just said he was having a meal somewhere else now. I didn’t say in the venue.

you said They are currently eating in another pub without fuss.

Which is what I was referring to.

Kalevala · 16/03/2024 19:14

Is it only for similar age teens? Say 16 or 17 year olds needing someone over 25? What about young parents with children?

Itloggedmeoutagain · 16/03/2024 19:18

So he was refused entry. So didn't get in? How did the family friend know about it?

We’ve been in the bar plenty of times and there is always children in with young parents, or groups of lads playing pool/darts who are certainly not over 25.

its been sorted now I believe just an over zealous door staff.

If he's an adult why is his mum doing the email follow up 😩

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 16/03/2024 20:35

Sorry just seen update

Danikm151 · 16/03/2024 20:41

Some pubs have a rule of no under 18s on match days. It may be similar to that

BioHive · 16/03/2024 20:59

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend slightly different but similar local supermarket had a sale on for basic easter eggs sign said 6 per customer no small print, so person with their son got six eggs each and under contract law that classes as two individual customers yet the staff member at the till refused saying they came in together ,

WHYYYYYY
Why are you getting involved?

The whole point is you're saying they are adults and don't need supervision. Yet you're stepping in!!!!!!!
