To feel bothered by this

I'm part of a team. The head of the team has brought someone new to the group so have I. I've been clear how well I know this person and can vouch for them. The team leader said they used to work with the person they are bringing in. I've just heard through a third party that the person she is bringing in is actually her brother!

I feel sucker punched. We talk in great detail about work and personal lives. Not best buddies but always honest and open so this for some reason has left me feeling uncomfortable. AIBU to feel this way?

The person being her brother doesn't bother me, infact she has another family member on the team. I feel like she was hiding it. Another member of the team found out and confronted the team leader about this and apparently she was very sheepish about it.

I don't know whether to mention it to her or not also. Trust is important in our job and I feel this has been betrayed. I don't know if I'm being AIBU about this.

I think without knowing your job or team, there’s not really enough context for this to make sense. Although obviously lying is never good.

I suppose technically nobody has lied about the situation, it just hasn't been made public knowledge willingly.

I don't want to go into specifics of our job roles because it might be outing and also I don't think it's all that relevant. But trust and communication are important. Maybe it didn't feel relevant to her to tell me. I haven't worked with her brother yet. Maybe I just go along and see if and when it comes up.

People do moan about each other from time to time within the group which I think is normal, just venting, I'd rather know if I'm venting about the team leaders brother though and not just a former colleague of hers.

Outing... 😂

Is she doing nepotism? No wonder she hid it. Report her.

So she hasn’t lied. So what’s the drama? The job roles may not be relevant but if you aren’t going to give enough information for your story to make any sense then there’s not much point in posting really.

You work for a company that doesn't have an open recruitment policy? Or if it does, it is not being applied.
If there is no policy, presumably they don't have an HR policy, so no point in reporting or complaining
