Lighthearted thread!

We seem to be on a week on week of cycle of DS being ill and have been since September. Just come home today and once again we have a horrible cough again!

Whyyyyyyy, every time we shift it a week later it's back, this leads to DS having shite sleep and then us by default. Does it ever get better??

AIBU to lock myself in our room with a bottle of wine and chocolate and let DH deal with it for the next however many years!

YANBU. As I understand it, wine, chocolate and isolation helps speed up the healing process. Bonus points if you can palm off all nurse-y responsibilities to your other half for the duration.

I am also led to believe that it is a child's duty to catch as many colds, coughs and infections as possible so they can claim bragging-rites at school.

My goodness, we get sick every time we babysit,,,

Yummymummy2020 · 15/03/2024 19:55

Yes op! We have been the same here!!! I have considered vanishing off to somewhere sunny and not returning till the relentless sicknesses phase is over 😂

PostItInABook · 15/03/2024 19:59

Because there are so many people nowadays who think their homes need to be completely sterile, rather than just ‘normal clean’.

MigGirl · 15/03/2024 19:59

YADeffinatlyNBU, I think the main reason is kids crammed together in classrooms with little ventilation (I tried to keep the open windows policy after covid but they winge they are cold and shut them.

They don't wash their hands, sneeze allover each other and then touch every surface available. And I'm talking about teenagers, primary kids are worse.

The chocolate and wine sound like a fine plan, don't forget to open the window of the room you are in to let those germs out. 😉

Lovingly telling your child that could they sit at the other side of the room rather than climbing all over me would be amazing!

I think running away to a sunny place alone would be the best solution, I have muted it to DH who looked horrified.

I love DS to pieces but I do cringe when he asks for a hug when he's like this! Parent of the year over here of course

That's exactly is why all the children should live together in solitary confinement and all of us adults should move to a sunny tropical island with an endless supply of wonderful food Drink and sunshine.😁

Realistically, undeveloped immune systems being built, generally grim weather meaning they spend all their time inside with other children so the germs get passed around and can't blow away ( plus a culture where we spend time inside rather than in the outdoors), central heating.

This about sums it up.
Classrooms by their nature are breeding grounds (ex teacher here).

My daughter proudly told me they all tried her red nose on today 😅says it all really...here's hoping we're not ill!

Roundgreysoft · 15/03/2024 21:03

I have been so incredibly ill for a long time because of bugs coming home from school.
I had sepsis earlier this year and my immune system is shot. A minor cold for one person is turning in to crippling illness for me.
I've heard so many parents saying they're sending their kids in to school even though they had very high temperatures that morning, bur they'd given them both calpol and ibuprofen. I wish people wouldn't 😢

When DS was born he also had a cold from birth until about 4 months old and that came home from school. Now he has another one.
